Looking back at last year to this year (PER only) it made we want to look at these 4 players from last to this year. 2012/13 reference and 2013/14 reference Lillard in 12/13: 16.8 PER, gave up 16.8 PER (0.0), 13/14: 19.2 PER, gave up 17.9 (+1.3) Matthews in 12/13: 14.4 PER, gave up 14.8 (-0.3), 13/14: 20.9 PER, gave up 10.4 (+10.5) Batum in 12/13: 16.4 PER, gave up 12.6 (+3.8), 13/14: 18.4 PER, gave up 11.1 (+7.3) Aldridge in 12/13: 21.2, gave up 16.7 (+4.5), 13/14: 20.3 PER, gave up 12.2 (+8.2) I think this is one of the big reasons why we are doing so well. I also think this is another reason why Lopez is a better addition. I think Lopez is allowing these players better focus on defending their own man.
Ugh... that shows that Dame's defense is getting worse. HIS PER improved, but his opponents PER also improved. I had hoped his defense was improving. That statistic doesn't show it.
Yeah it looks that way, but I also think it has more to do with how our team's defensive philosophy is. I think we are living with getting beat on the pick and roll (staying with the man), which effects Lillard's PER against. I could be wrong though.
It seems to me that Lillard is trying to force his man to go baseline, but the help defense doesn't always make it in time.
I'm curious what the average against PERs are in the league. Meaning, what are SGs usually getting by average? same with the other positions. Hopefully BNM and company can provide that for us. It would be really interesting to see how our individual players are doing in the grand scheme of things.
Last year there were switches and help coming often, this season Lillard takes care of his man solo most of the time, which is one reason for the stat rising. Also, with the other guard and both forward positions being locked up so often, the opposing coaches are game planning around attacking from the point. Basically, what I'm suggesting is that Lillard isn't regressing, he might even be improving, but this stat is regressing because of the other factors. This is not a stat that can be looked at in a vacuum, it can only be understood in relation to the rest of the team and the style of defense.
Plus lillard is in the fast guard heavy west. I love that batum and Aldridge doubled and Wes is out of this world improved. The dark knight for most improved?
If he can keep it up, or even push the improvement a tad more then I think he will be in the conversation.
Ya, you are probably right, especially since most people look at raw stats. His per 36 stats, up 2 points, rebounding up 1.5 dosent sound that great. But when you look at the deeper numbers, ortg, drtg, TS%, eFG, TRB% and PER you start to see there is much more to his improvement than a couple points. But I do doubt that those numbers will shine through. check out advanced stats
Against Dallas, yes. They were so worried about Dirk on the pop that they had LaMarcus faking his help on the guard.
Matthews has consistently been a poor PER guy throughout his career. I wonder if he can keep up anything close to what he has been doing?
What he's doing now is really close to a allstar level. That would be amazing!!! This season, he's been a go to go offensively. I would love for him to keep it up:
