    "Starting lineup changes in the preseason don't count in the staggering total made at safety during the Lovie Smith era, but there is concern with the regular season less than three weeks away.

    The Bears have changed starting free and strong safeties a combined 56 times since Smith took over in 2004, and free safety Chris Conte, who had an impressive training camp, will be held out of Friday's exhibition game against the Giants in East Rutherford, N.J."
