One sack given up to Detroit might not be a good indicator of anything. Same could apply to Gore's rushing total too. However, Gore was expected to do well and he did. And that's the bottom line.
i hate that vernon davis cant seem to get it going, seems like he might have been a workout wonder prior to his draft, and really will never put it together. he seems impressive at times, but i really dont think he is much of a football player.
Agreed. You always hear or read about how well he performs in practice, but hasn't figured out how to get it together when it matters. I thought Martz spread offense would be tailored made for his skillset and he could catch 10 to 12 yard passes as the 3rd or 4th option for JT to throw to. I think Vernon is playing with too, much anxiety and is trying to make a big play before he secures the pass. Damn I miss Brent Jones!
Vernon is very much a great athlete. But TEs take awhile to transition, as they do some thing similar to WRs and do some things similar to OL. Blocking and receiving... Its why its pretty atypical for a rookie TE to come in and put up great numbers. Granted, Davis has disappointed thus far and could be on his way to a bust. But its not surprising for a TE to struggle early on in his career.
You put him out as a WR, its likely a CB picks him up. Utilize him as a TE... and its more likely a S or LB picks him up. Which creates the greater mismatch?
