Quote:

Grizzlies Guard Troy Bell to Miss Summer League Memphis, Tennessee, July 9, 2004 ? Grizzlies guard Troy Bell suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee during the Grizzlies? summer camp morning workout session on Thursday, July 8 at Rhodes College. Bell underwent surgery to repair the torn meniscus on Friday, July 9 at the Campbell Clinic and will not travel with the team for Summer Pro League games, July 10-25 in Long Beach, CA. He is expected to miss a minimum of two months
Link I'm pretty annoyed that we won't have Troy Bell until mid-season. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do with the playing time in preaseason play. However, realistically we probably wouldn't have seen much of him anyway with Williams, Watson, and Burks. What does everyone else think about this?
Updates: Hubie Brown on Troy Bell?s injury? ?We know that it is a serious injury to the knee area and when they go in and explore this afternoon they?ll know exactly what it is. So, consequently, we know that we?re looking at probably a minimum of two months. But, he?ll be ready to go. He?ll have plenty of time to get himself back for (training camp). From a standpoint for Troy Bell, this is naturally an emotional low for him. Not just because of the injury, but because of the fact that he?ll miss seven games in Los Angeles where he was going to get his opportunity to really play and play with a lot of minutes. From a team standpoint, naturally it?s a low because this would have been a good time to evaluate Troy at the point running the team. He?s worked so hard during the course of this past season to elevate his knowledge of being a true point guard at the NBA level. He worked on his body, he was in excellent shape. As you all know, he?s a wonderful kid. We?re hoping for a quick recovery. The problem is this is the second time for basically the same kind of injury on that same knee. He?s also had it done on his opposite knee. So, he?s had two previous operations for the same injury that he had yesterday. Basically it came without contact. It came on a quick move on the open floor. Unfortunately, we only had five minutes left in the practice. Everything was a negative - negative for Troy, negative for the team - also, the fact that we couldn?t get past the last five minutes of a practice without someone going down.? Assistant Coach Brendan Brown on Troy Bell?s injury? ?We just know that he?s probably going to miss the summer league, I said that on the radio this morning. We?re very disappointed because this was a very big showcase for Troy?It really doesn?t (change our summer league plans). What we had planned on doing when we went out there was that Troy (Bell) and Antonio (Burks) were both going to play a lot. Maybe one guy was playing more than the other, or this was his majority of the minutes game. But, we didn?t anticipate any problems with that and we looked forward to them playing a lot even if they split the games sometimes. It means that Antonio is probably going to play more. We?ve got another point guard in here now and we?re just going to keep working at this. It?s a great opportunity for Antonio, but we feel very badly for Troy because this was a big showcase for him.?
