Predictions-My Superfecta Winner-Smarty Jones PLace-Purge Show-Eddington Fourth-Rock Hard 10 Length-7 1/2 Upset-Eddington any other horse fanse that wanna predict?
1st, Id like to say that I love thouroughbred racing....on my lists of favorite sports to watch, it goes in at #4, just after hockey and just before the NBA....2nd, I have never seen a horse dominate a stakes race like Smarty Jones did at the preakness, and im pretty excited about tommorow....for once in my lifetime, I think a horse will complete the triple crown, and I cant wait....if he dominates the Belmont like he dominated the preakness, we could be looking at one of the alltime great horses, perhaps in the class with Secratariat....
i am sooo excited. In a couple days NHL and horse racing will be gone and stop distracting me from more important sports.
Actually there were others that actually had better shots at a triple crown as well as of recent. We cant forget the phenom horses Easy Goer or holy bull. Both horses had won 18 races in row before there first loss, and retired shorty after with only one loss. Its truley hard to accomplish such a feat for them horses. However nick zito and wayne lucus know how to snag winning horses. It wasnt a suprise that smarty jones lost . Hearing it was a zito horse, in which nick zito had 3 horses in the belmont isnt suprising. There will be more to come.
It is hard for a horse like smarty jones to win belmont, and i think the reason is the longer track for the belmont. I think most owners and trainers breed and train horses to win the other 2 races, because then the get the publicity and the money for breeding their horse. They train them to win the short track and if they get lucky they might win the third.
The questions on Smarty Jones before the derby was the distance, he had never run a full mile in a race, and some thought he couldnt handle that distance....obviously, he handled it....then some thought he wouldnt be able to handle the mile and a quarter of the preakness, in which he destroyed the field....knowing that racing experts were worried about the distances, I was a little concerned about the Belmonts mile and half, and clearly he ran out of gas....had that race been a mile and a quarter, he wins by 4 lengths....thats why its hard to win all 3 of these races though, the varying distances add to the difficulties...
You got it beef and bear. Smarty ran out of gas at the quarter pole and down the stretch. The long distance at the belmont was difintley the reason this horse lost his first race.
i think that stew elliot tried missed judged the stretch, and he had smarty pull away to soon and for to long. if he hadnt let smarty take that lead that early in the stretch run, he would have crushed birdstone by at least 7 lenghts and still pulling
Im not sure thats accurate....after seeing him explode in the Preakness and literally run away from the field, I would imagine that the jockey had a good feel for when to turn on Shorty's jets...I really think he just got gassed down the stretch....a mile and half is a long way to go for a horse that had never run even a mile in a stakes race 6 weeks earlier....before the Belmont, one of the commentators mentioned that no horse who had never raced at Belmont had ever won the Belmont Stakes, and that held true, as Birdstone had considerable experience at Belmont and this was Smarty Jones's 1st appearance there....I was really hoping to see a triple crown winner, something that hasnt happened since I was a year old....I guess I wait atleast another year....
unlike nascar, horseracing is a sport. nascar is gay cause its round and round 200 times, but horses go for a 2 minute sprint. I do crew which is rowing a boat for 1500 meters and thats just like horseracing so i can appreciate what work they do.
thats a messed up way of looking at it GF....whats the point of moving a 13 oz chunk of pig ass over a 3 inch goal line? youve reduced the great sport of horse to a single act(going in a circle) and its just not a correct viewpoint of the event....watch a big time horse race sometime(you may have to wait until next years derby), those horses are magnificent beasts of nature, and Its quite a spectacle to watch them run 35+ mph in packs of 8 or more within inches of each other....
the one thing that keeps me from being a huge horse racing fan, is that Im not likely to ever see Smarty Jones again....they dont televise many non-stakes races so for 10 weeks a year, Im thrilled to be a horse race fan, then I go the rest of the year without seeing much or hearing much....
i really like rock hard ten, with a little more training i believe he could be very good, remember he is not even three yet
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (staley22)</div><div class='quotemain'>i really like rock hard ten, with a little more training i believe he could be very good, remember he is not even three yet</div> i said before the belmont that if Smarty lost, it would be to RH10 because he seems like the only horse thats bred to run 1.5 miles, hes huge, and long. ithink hes more of a long distance racr than a preakness or derby lenght racer.
does that mean that Rock Hard 10 can run in the triple crown races next year? he will be a 3 yeara old, which is the normal age for those races...
No none of them will run them races next year. All them trainers and owners have horses already bread in there farms to run them races for next year. Dawk remember one thing, smarty smoked that horse in the kentucky derby when they both ran. Bottom line is the belmont is a longer track that benifited a horse that ran it and won before. 9 times out 10 smarty would beat that horse.
