Back in the summer, I did an analytical article on whether the qualifying offer was a good or bad idea. Here is a link to that article: http://dabullz.com/2008/09/01/qualifying-offer-good-or-bad-idea/ In it, I came to the conclusion that it was in Gordon's favor to take the qualifying offer, because the odds of him damaging his value were far less than him increasing. In the article, I used the rationale that NBA teams value the volume, and don't necessarily look at things like efficiency all that much. (If they did, Gordon's contract value would be rising through the roof. I think this is a major flaw in a lot of front offices in the NBA, and a thing that the good front offices are able to take advantage of). Right now, Gordon is sitting at 21 PPG, which I denoted, would slightly increase his value. I think as of right now, the Bulls have to be figuring that they will at least be giving Gordon the Deng money. The thing Gordon has going for him now, that he didn't in the past, and something Hinrich/Deng lack, is consistency. He has been consistent this season. Home/Road, East/West, Division by Division, his splits are pretty much the same, no outrageous splits. The only splits in which he has great variance is the team by team splits, and that is to be expected because of the small sample sizes. I would also imagine that Derrick Rose will lobby Bulls management to keep Gordon, because Gordon has been the only one who has been a consistent assist for Rose all season long. Gordon makes the game easier for Rose. Without Gordon, Rose might look like Durant down in Oklahoma City. So how much do you think Gordon is looking at, based on his play so far this season?
8-10 mil per year, same as last year. His game hasn't changed in any appreciable way. He is still a great deep threat, but can't guard his position or dribble or pass effectively out of a double team. Just because the bulls changed their style to favor offense doesn't make BG any more valuable. He still gets stifled by good teams, there just aren't that many of them.
