QUOTE

Liverpool boss Rafa Benítez could find few positives from his side's 3-1 defeat at Reading, bemoaning the tough luck his players got from the officials.

Rafael Benítez was disappointed to lose against Reading on Saturday, feeling his side did not get the rub of the green.

"I think it was a strange game," the Spaniard told Setanta Sports after the final whistle. "We had some chances and we didn’t take them, but they got some decisions they profited from them, like when thepenalty was given."

    Ref Got It Wrong

Shown the penalty decision, Benítez was adamant the officials gotit wrong - and thinks they knew it, too. "I think[thefoul] was outside the area," he said.

"If it was inside then why didn't Jamie Carragher getthe yellowcard? I think maybe because the referee knewhe'd got it wrong."

At the other end, too, Liverpool had no penalty joy as Sonko's trip on Torres was waved away. "For me it's clear," said the Reds boss.

"Even if [Sonko] did get a touch, Torres was chasing the ball and he was cut down - he can't run so it's a penalty."

    Moving On

Nonetheless, Benítez admitted that what is done is done. "We can't change results so we have to think about the positives... no injuries and no yellow cards. We need to think about the next game."

Asked if it was with an eye on the Marseille and United that he took off Torres, Gerrard and Carragher, Benítez explained that he needed to think about forthcoming matches. "We need to think about the next game.

"We knew it wasdifficult today and at 3-1 we needed to think about protecting key players. Players are tired, they play a lot of games and we tried to do something new with players with fresh legs."

The Spaniard denied, however, that this meant the Champions League took priority over the league. "It was going to be difficult to win so I needed to think about that, that's all."

    Owner Problems?

Asked if this defeat might pose freshproblems when he meets with club owners Gillet and Hicks next weekend, Benítez was clear. "No, as long as I improve my English I don’t think so," he joked.

lets be fair on the ref please. I mean he only got 3 penalty decisions wrong. It wasn't long ago I said there was something sinister going on and now it is unfolding.

losing to reading is just plain embarrasing, even if the refs were on their payroll, they could have gotten more than 1 goal past them.

Losing to Middlesbrough ( A team which, in my opinion will get relegated at the end of the season) is an embarrsment.

Reading arn't a bad team, Already drawn at Old Trafford on first day.

The penalty shouldn't have been awarded but Reading scored two more goals so their win is fair.

hang on. Now one defeat to Boro and your already writing us off. Boro are don't forget Giant killers. They Beat Chelski and Liverfool at the riverside last season and i for one would find it a shame if they did get relagated. Why can't Benitez the Pornstar take it in his stride like Wenger. Wenger admits that Arsenal played Crap yesterday and thats what you need. Good honest Truth telling. Plus Arsenal work better while inder Pressure don't forget.

I'm sorry but Boro are crap, Reading are better. Yeah Torres scores Hat-tricks against teams like Derby and Reading. Adebayor just doesn't score hat-tricks. Torres has scored 12 this season, we're not even half way through.

AnywayStrikers are judged on goals not hat-tricks, I'd rather have a striker that scores every game than one that only scores hat-tricks, one every 3 games.

I know, Would Shevchenko even get into the Derby team? Kenny Miller and Steve Howard are good strikers.
