I guess there couldn't be a more subjective choice

bonus points if you can name, without googling, who the play-by-play guy was who worked with Steve Jones

and would Mike Barrett + Steve Jones + Bill Walton be the most entertaining group ever or a ticket on the loony train?

It's early still but I have yet to mute Kent and Hurd. They might be boring but at least they are knowledgeable and not irratating. I loved Rice but he could wear on me during blowouts.

Doucette

I honestly hate to say it, but I have decided that I hate our current announcers. They talk too fucking much, especially Hurd. How about some actual game analysis instead of running off at the fucking mouth constantly, and stop stepping on the play by play guy. Even though he sucks at it. Neither of these guys seem to have a fucking clue what their job is. Maybe listen to some old Steve Jones tapes?

I prefer the laid back stylings of Mike and Mike. Or something similar.

What about my guy Pete Pranica?0985C679-192E-4CF4-BEFD-985014371303.jpeg

Kent’s continual use of first and last name, plus the Junior for Trent and Jones is irritating as hell. You’d think he worked at DMV or something. Somebody give those guys a nickname and give Kent a chance to catch a breath.

Other than that, Hurd and Kent are okay. I don’t get too caught up in the announcers game, but I think the all-time worst was Pat Lafferty. I used to call him “Laugh-at-me”.

The best tandem I enjoyed on the rad was Schonz & Pinball.

M&M by far. But I will admit some of that is clouded by sentimental value.

I thought Calabro was objectively great at the job, and I enjoyed his calls on huge plays. I greatly dislike Hurd, and I dislike Kent even more. The combination of Hurd and Kent just sounds so amateurish to me.

The TV bias here is painful, where is Wheels & Rice?
Wheels and rice would be good. Would just need to use the radio broadcast...

I picked Mike and Mike. I think Kent will be fine. Just need somebody else with better chops as his partner.

Barrett would be good. What's the deal there anyway? Did he put the moves on the wrong person or something?

Loved Calabro before he came here. Hated him here.

Glad MB is gone.

Miss Rice.

Really liking Hurd.

Kent is super meh. Good pbp guys are hard to come by.

Exactly. How is Kent supposed to learn to do play by play with diarrhea mouth doing all the talking?

I think the covid season must be tough to call from the broadcast booth....I like Hurd and Kent...Kent is settling into the role and still calls a game like he hosts talkin' ball but he'll get it together...I'll cut him some slack for a rookie season behind the mike. Hurd is a natural to me.....that being said, I listen to Demers and Holton on the radio.....they are really good but not Wheels good

A couple of areas where I would like to offer Kent some constructive feedback:

Although I haven't noticed it as much lately, at first he would say 'player x' "tries to pass the ball" or "tries to get up a shot" on seemingly every play. No, the player actually did do those things, whether or not they were successful.

Which leads to my current peeve: If I were to take a shot if Jim Beam every time Kent says the words "...can't get it up", I'd pass out before the end of the game. I mean, Freudian?

Listening to Kent and Hurd is like watching paint dry.

Mike and mike were the best.

Kent can be a little rough and hurd is meh for me.

Improvement from when Calabro was calling games because I wouldn't even watch the blazers on tv anymore.

Besides Callabro all of these guys are amateurs. I can't believe that we can't get a more exciting play by play guy but more than that I refuse to believe that we can't get a funny or interesting color commentator who understands Xs and Os and has played in the NBA. We should have a pretty young duo but obviously not the guys we have.

I don't just want a couple guys I'd like to watch a game with. I want professionals, entertainers and experts.

WHAT ABOUT PETE PRANICA!!!!!!!?????

Wheels and Snapper Jones are my favorites to listen to...Wheels has been the voice for Blazer games for me for a long time....I really miss his presence on the mike...I always though Mike Rice should have the Dwight Jaynes gig....I loved him with Courtside but last few years he was honestly slippin'....lot of mistakes a vet shouldn't make at that point in his career....Barrett was fine...a little too attached to the front office but he called a decent game...I don't think Calabro ever got comfortable here. He's a pro but I listened to Wheels over him and Barrett

I watched Jones' highlights on Instagram and everytime he made a basket or a steal Kent said his full name and I was like dude just say Derrick Jones or just Jones we all know who you mean. Same with Trent

I think I've realized what Kent's problem is. He's like someone who is calling the highlights for a TV show that is about a Sports crew. Kind of like Sports night back on ABC (20+ years ago..god damn Im getting old).

You could tell the two hosts of that show (Casey and Dan) were not natural at calling highlights, and it showed. That's kind of how Kent comes off. Someone who is not naturally good at calling games like this.
