At least he is very positive, which is nice. He has Brook starting from day one, an interesting idea.
A trade in name only. Orlando signed him to a $3.3 million contract, then Nets sent a $3.3 million trade exception to Orlando along with a token amount of cash. The Nets got the TE from the Kidd trade, so essentially Dooling was the latest but not the last piece of the Kidd deal to fall into the Nets hands. They still have KVH's contract and the 2010 Mavs pick.
Since the Nets used part of the MLE on Najera, they had to have a TE to acquire Dooling. What they had left wasn't enough. -Petey
Right now the Nets have about $1.75 million left from the MLE. Not only did they use it for the Najera contract, they also had to use $442,000 of it for CDR's contract...so reports Kerber. That's not much, but it's $500,000 more than the highest vets minimum deal...and that could help if they want to sign someone who wants more than the vets minimum.
Wasn't CDR paid the league min? If so that should have no impact on the MLE. Anything over the MLE and the total of that contract would count against the MLE. -Petey
Isn't that the league min? From what I recall there is no true 2nd round pay scale (like the 1st). -Petey
I believe there is a pay scale for 2nd round picks, and from what I can tell, CDR is getting it. I'll have to check with Uncle Larry Coon. Mr. Coon didn't help, but checking the salary pages, it seems CDR will earn $442,114 this season, just like every other 2nd round pick, except for the Suns 2nd rounder, I believe. Can't imagine why CDR's salary would come off thr Nets MLE.
There is no such thing as a second round pay scale. Teams have to use cap space or an exception (MLE, vet min, BAE) to sign them.
Veteran Minimum for a player with 0 years experience Coon can't help you find things that don't exist.
"Veteran Minimum"? CDR is not a veteran. He's a 2nd round draft pick rookie. I was surprised Mr. Coon didn't have the figure that 2nd round picks are bound by, unless a team has to offer more to encourage a player play for their team, as the Suns did. Of course, there is always the possibility that I just missed the figure that Mr. Coon did provide. Mr. Coon certainly spelled out the salary structure for 1st round picks, who are also not veterans. Addendum: Sorry, Mr. Coon did address this in FAQ#11. Read and enjoy.
