Definitely not the best shooter ever, but has pretty much the best percentages ever. I'll never understand why the coaches in Minnesota have never used him more, and used a lot more plays to get him 3's.
I think McHale has done a good job utializing Fred. Flip used him in his final days as coach, but Flip never used him much to start the year which was mind-boggling since Fred was a huge part of the Wolves success last year. I don't know why Flip never used him earlier. That was the one thing that I was down on Flip.
yeah Fred does not get used enough in Minnesota...that team needs shooters, and aside from szczerbiak, hoiberg's the only consistent threat they have...plus he rebounds and plays defense and is a solid passer...he should be getting 20-25 minutes off the bench...
yeah that article was funny... i guess Reggie Miller doesn't exist? lol.. o well. props to the mayor for leading the league in 3 pt fg% though.

Or is that because he is getting less minutes? Reggie may not have matched Fred's percentage in his career, but hes hit a whole lot more 3's, and done a lot more on his teams, so the two dont realy compare that much.

But the problem is that you have to chose your rotations carefully between the 4 because if you play Wally & Hoiberg extended minutes together at the 2 & 3 spots, then you take away any ablity for the Wolves to get into the lane off the dribble in the half-court, because Sprewell is still the most consistent at getting into the lane out of the 4 guys imo. And with the lack of point guard penetration more then ever on this team, you need to find ways to manufacture penetration from one of the other perimeter positions. Hassell has to play at least 20 minutes a game, cause he is really the only of the 3 that at least stands a chance of keeping opposing teams high perimeter scorer in check even tho Hoiberg has excelled in a team defensive concept in a Wolves uniform, he still cant hang with Ray Allen, Kobe, Carmello & some of the other high scoring wing players the west has to offer. So its really no way you can cut down Hassell's minutes for Freddy. So that really leaves just a battle between Hoiberg & Wally for the consistent minutes in a rotation that really only allows you to play 3 of the 4 guys inorder for them to truely be effective. While Hoiberg is thew better shooter, Wally does get the nod as the better all around scorer. And he(Wally that is) can create mis-matches that Hoiberg just cant. If you put a smaller perimeter player on Wally then he has a dencet turn around post game from about 15 feet out, which becomes extremely effective against smaller defenders. And when you put a bigger Small forward or a guy that is really surpose to play the 4 instead of the 3, like Van Horn in the Dallas game yesterday, then Wally's first step becomes quicker & he is able to get to the hoop. So out of all four guys Wally has the ablity to create the most mis-matches for othewr teams defenses, so their is the main reason he plays so many minutes compared to Hoiberg. While Iam not the biggest Wally fan. And I do believe that the choice of Wally vs Hoiberg early in the season, has had an underline effect on the struggles of the Wolves. Not because Wally did anything wrong, just because such a decision took the Wolves 2nd best clutch perimeter shooter Hoiberg out of the rotation. And that has left the Wolves with really no clutch shooting from Sammy & no clutch shooting from the Major. And you see the effects the Wolves go from one of the best 4th quarter teams to one of the worst imo. There has to be at least 20-25 games where the Wolves where within stiking distance whether it be having the lead, tied or down only be a couple of points going into the 4th quarter. And you see this Wolves team just come out & lay an egg in the big spots of the 4th. And that has alot to do with the lack of a 4th quarter pressence by Sammy( injury being up set whateverr) but also from fred do to rotation decisions.
