Big Ten finally wins ACC/Big Ten Challenge

The Big Ten finally beat the Atlantic Coast Conference.

After losing the first 10 of the ACC/Big Ten Challenges, the Big Ten rode late wins by Wisconsin and Ohio State on Wednesday night for a 6-5 series victory.

The conferences entered Wednesday with three wins each. Illinois got one in the early games for the Big Ten, but Miami and Boston College won their games to give the ACC a 5-4 lead.

Wisconsin then handed No. 6 Duke its first loss ever in the series, 73-69, and No. 15 Ohio State followed with a 77-64 victory over No. 21 Florida State to clinch it.

“It’s so hard because the Big Ten is a great conference and the ACC is a great conference,” Ohio State coach Thad Matta said. “It’s a unique situation for early in the year.”

This was the sixth time the Challenge finished with a one-victory difference. The ACC won 5-4 in 1999, 2000 and 2002, and it won 6-5 in 2005 and 2008.

The ACC has a 67-41 record in the Challenge with Boston College (4-0) the only team to have never lost a game.

Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan was told the Big Ten was about to win the challenge with Ohio State holding a big lead.

“That would be pretty nice,” he said. “I’d feel pretty good about that.”

Really, im not that upset about never winning this thing, Seams like the ACC allways got the good match ups.
