Biggest Blunders of Real NFL Scouts

If you are a football fan like me, you are starved for any kind of news about your favorite team. Any scrap of relevent NFL information is enough -- but its tough to find any. So you go on to sportingnews.com, click on NFL, and look at the archives. You see offseason rankings!

Success! Football info! This is gonna be great! You click on it, and you begin to read!!

...What?

Wait, wait what?!

They put him where? Over HIM! But...

THEY HAVE A ROOKIE OVER MY FAVORITE PROBOWLER?!

That's right. If you are a football fan like me you've suffered this same fate over and over lately as you looked at the abominations that are the RealScouts offseason rankings. So I decided I would go ahead and rank the worst rankings. And here is the best part: if you agree with me, then this is an adequate ranking. If you disagree, consider it a meta-commentary on the crappiness of the RealScouts rankings! I can't lose!

1: Wide Recievers—Braylon Edwards at #7, Lee Evans at #8, above STEVE SMITH, CALVIN JOHNSON, and Greg Jennings? Ouch. What an awful list. Throw in Reggie Wayne as the #3 guy (sorry, he’s not. He’s good but not top 5) and Ochocinco beating out Housh, Brandon Marshall, and Hines Ward and you have easily the worst list by RealScouts. This rankings wins (loses?) by a longshot.

2: Cornerbacks – Boy was this a mess. Cortland Finnegan at #2 after one good season with Haynesworth? DeAngelo Hall in the top 10? Chris Gamble a complete snub? Eric Wright and Kevin Hayden beating out Quentin Jammer and Corey Webster? Not to mention the CARDINALS were the only other team besides the Packers to have both starters make the list.

3: Tight End – The very top of this list was ok, but after that it was just plain awful. Chris Cooley got beat out by Heath Miller. Brent Celek and Brandon Pettigrew made the list over 12 actually deserving NFL STARTERS. Dallas Clark over Antonio Gates? Anthony Fasano was snubbed as well…

4: Runningback – DeAngelo Williams at 14. That should be all I have to say, but I’ll throw in a few more goodies. Steven Jackson over Westbrook, Gore, Tomlinson, Williams, and Turner. Darren McFadden #12 (OVER DEANGELO WILLIAMS), Beanie Wells making the list over 15 or more runningbacks who have ACTUALLY PLAYED in the NFL.

5: Fullback – I mean come on. How do you snub Lorenzo Neal in a fullback rankings? Really? And Greg Jones #1? What in the hell…?

6: Head Coaches – John Fox and Lovie Smith were 9 and 20, respectively. Sean Payton, whose career highlight is a 10-6 season and a playoff loss, is up there at #6. Brad Childress, one of the worst coaches in the league, is #11. Any of the other coaches on the list could probably take the Vikings deep in the playoffs – Childress just can’t find a way. Norv Turner in the top 15?

7: Offensive Coordinator – Cam Cameron was #1. That’s a pretty huge blunder there. Top 5 I can see, but #1?! Then Jason Garrett misses the top 5 – I HATE the Cowboys but I know he’s up there… Dan Henning, who had an entire fanbase demand his firing is #3. Scott Linehan at #6 over Bruce Arians (11) and Mike Mularkey. Jeff Davidson of the Panthers snubbed after last year’s season…

8: Defensive Tackle – Chris Canty has never played the position…and clocked in at #5. Kris Jenkins was completely snubbed. That really is all I need to say.

9: Outside Linebacker – DURHUR sacks are the ONLY THING that matters!!! Coverage is for cornerback rite I mean lol swhy wud a linebacka have to do anyting but get sacks?!?!?!

10: Offensive Tackle – And to close out this list of horrible rankings I will put one of their strangest efforts – where it first became impossible to tell whether they were ranking based on production or potential. Either way, this list fails. Ryan Clady is good but you cannot begin to argue that a rookie’s first year can make him the best lineman in the NFL. You cannot justify that. Walter Jones has that spot until he has a bad season. Jason Peters was AWFUL last year and he was #3. Sam Baker made the list at 20 despite being a mostly-sidelined mediocre backup over Jeff Otah. Flozell Adams at 12 when he shouldn’t have made it at all. Jammal Brown of New Orleans over any Vikings, Ravens, or Giants player. Ugh.
