Great for the Pistons, if he had left, Detriot wouldve fallen apart. 12 mill a year isnt THAT bad considering some teams wouldve gone to 15 mill a year and even more.

Wow this is extremely good news. It would have been tough for the Pistons if he signed elsewhere. I just hope this story is legit.
Wait, hold on a second.Apparently, A. Sherrod Blakley just got off the phone with Andy Miller, Billup's agent, and said the deal is far from done.Should have known not to listen to McCosky.http://blog.mlive.com/fullcourtpress/2007/...ps_agent_s.html

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>AUBURN HILLS -- The Pistons and Chauncey Billups have agreed in principal to a five-year contract. The deal, though, which is believed to be worth $60 million, still has some wrinkles to be ironed out."I would not characterize it as being wrapped up," said Andy Miller, Billups' agent. "The discussions are ongoing. I wouldn't say they were positive or negative. There are still a lot of hurdles that haven't been addressed to our satisfaction or theirs."The basic premise of the deal is believed to be solid -- five years and $60 million. What needs to be worked out, apparently, is the language of the fifth year. That fifth year might not be entirely guaranteed, or, the bulk of the $60 million will be paid over the first four years.Billups, 30, who has led the Pistons to the Eastern Conference finals the last five years and was the MVP of the 2004 NBA Finals, cannot sign until July 11.Miller would not comment on whether any other team was bidding on Billups' services. But it is unlikely.Billups was the top-ranked point guard on the free agent market, but he lost some negotiating leverage on draft night last Thursday when potential bidders Charlotte and Memphis went in different directions -- the Bobcats taking on Jason Richardson and his $51 million salary and the Grizzlies drafting point guard Mike Conley, Jr.Billups lost additional leverage on Monday when Orlando, a third potential bidder, agreed to sign Rashard Lewis to a maximum contract.Still, agent Miller has been able to work a lucrative deal. Billups contract would be richer than one signed two years ago by Steve Nash and not nearly as exorbitant as Jason Kidd's $103 million deal. The Pistons now have the mid-level exception -- worth roughly $6 million for next season -- to re-sign Amir Johnson and sign another free agent (potentially Grant Hill). The Pistons would like to split that $6 million between those two players.Hill was in discussions with the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.</div>http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...PDATE/707030432Another article:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Chauncey Billups has agreed to a 5-year, $60-million contract according to Chris McCosky, reporting on WDFN-AM, but MLive.com's A. Sherrod Blakely just got off the phone with Billups' agent, Andy Miller, and Miller says the deal is still far from done. Please stay tune to both ASB's blog and MLive.com for further updates.Assuming the basic parameters of the deal are correct, the contract would start at $9.75 million next season and increase 10.5% every year, capping at $14.5 million in the final year of the deal. Initial prognostication indicated that the contract would probably start in the $12-13 million dollar ball park, so the Pistons may have done very well for themselves. That contract would push the team salary just over $61.5 million with 10 players under contract. With the dreaded luxury tax set at $65.4 million, the Pistons should have sufficient wiggle room to bring back Amir Johnson and sign their draft picks. If Lindsey Hunter retires, as many expect, that will free up an additional $2.25 million in cap space. This means that if the Pistons are intent on using most or all of their mid-level exception, they are nearly certain to have to pay at least a couple million dollars in tax.</div>http://blog.mlive.com/fullcourtpress/<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Haha. Chauncey would be smart not to re-sign just yet. Wait for another team to give him an offer sheet and wait for the pistons to match it. He coulda had more!

It isn?t believed that any other teams are bidding for Billups, an unrestricted free agent free to sign with any team.</div>
Ugh man, I don't like this. I love the fact we got Chauncey back, that's all great but its the other thing that bothers me. Amir has yet to prove anything really and we're talking about giving him $3m, this team definitely need a slasher who can get to the rim so we definitely need Hill. No centers on the team either besides Mohammed, you can't get it done in the East with one center. Williamson doesn't want to go over the luxury tax and signing both of those would put us over that so how in the hell do we get a center? If it was up to me I'd give Amir 1.5m, if he can't take that then just let him walk and get a big. Amir might be good in the future but this team is set to win now with all of these veterans so I say bring in someone that can help do that. Just handing someone $3m for what they did in the D league is ridiculous imo.
