he Binghamton Mets kicked off their Spring Training schedule with a 5-3 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks, Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, in Kissimmee, Fla. today. Matt Den Dekker, a 5th round pick in last year's draft, jumpstarted the offense with a leadoff triple to start the game. It was the first of seven hits on the afternoon for the B-Mets. Den Dekker, who hit .336 in 32 combined games with the GCL Mets (R) and the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) last season, later came home with the game's first run. He finished with a pair of hits and a stolen base. On the mound, right-hander Jeurys Familia got the start for Binghamton. The hard-throwing Dominican, who spent last year with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A), went two innings and hit the mid-90s with his fastball. Wes Wrenn picked up the win in relief with two scoreless innings. The righty was a 35th round pick for the Mets in 2009 and played for current B-Mets manager Wally Backman in Brooklyn (SS-A) last season. Rafael Fernandez, entering his sixth year in the Mets' farm system, plated the game's winning runs with a two-run double. The B-Mets continue their 14-game Spring Training schedule with a match-up against the Jacksonville Suns, AA affiliate of the Florida Marlins, Thursday at 1 PM in Jupiter, FL.
