I was looking at Rivers and Ainges record and rosters as coaches. I cannot believe how similar the roster composition and apparent style was. Both preferred athletic bigs. Both had star backcourt guys. Both had lots of ballhandlers. Both had some three point shooters. It looks like we may not have as much of a problem bringing in free agents but I think we have to win first. Once the winning starts, between Ainge and Rivers,we can sell the shamrock. There are a few free agents out there that have played for both Doc and Danny that kind of fit what we want to do. Mcdyess- Injuries could bring down price tag Giricek- good shooter(restricted) Gugliotta- old Wesley Person-great shooter who would fit in well Stephen Hunter (hehe) Horace Grant- Prob too old too Troy Hudson Steve Nash Jacque Vaughn
I like some of these ideas, but Steve Nash isn't coming to Boston. I think McDyess's stock has fallen so much Boston could sign him when he becomes a free agent for the MLE. I'm not sure when Person is a free agent but he would work well with Pierce, shooting from the outside
These are the guys I think we should be going after for now................. I am offering up Davis and a pick (preferably not the 15, if they want the 15, they have to take Jiri instaed of Davis) I am after Wilcox of the Clips, Swift of Memphis, Troy Murphy of GS, Al Harrington of Ind, Donyell marshall of Toronto. All of these guys have one of two things in common, they are either on an expiring contract (Guys playing for a contract tend to play a bit harder) or they are on a rookie scale contract. My personal preferance is Wilcox, but that is for another conversation. FA's...McDyess Now you are talkin...I like the game, but the body is suspect at best, but could be a great lift off the bench relieving Raef at the 4. As long as he doesnt want the whole MLE you have to consider him. We would have to draft a 4 or get another though, because I think we all know that he or Raef could go down in camp and not be back. Giricek...No thanx, slow, under agressive on the glass, but does have a nice shot. D is beyond suspect. Gugliotta...Old only begins to describe the problems Person...If you want a 2 that can score...take him in the draft, cheaper and no ego problems. Hunter..glad you laughed...LOL Grant...This guy makes whistlers mother look like a spring chicken Hudson.. I cant really make up my mind, I like him and another veteran point sure couldnt hurt for the right price. What was his injury? Nash...Would love it, but we dont have a prayer short of giving up PP. Vaughn...see Person without the ego Just for the record, if I am trading Davis...I am going gung ho to sign Daniels of Dallas with my MLE money, Cuban cant offer him crap for cash, But might dip into his MLE money if he trades Finley for size. A couple guys we should be taking a look at ( and giving psych exams) Leon Smith and Eddie Griffen. Yes I know that both of these guys are psycopathic to say the least, but you have to figure that one or possibly both will get over these problems sooner or later. They are worth at least looking at, both are very athletic 4's that are known for being overly agressive in the paint. If they havent changed, all you have done is look, If they look like they have a chance of overcoming their personal problems, you take a chance at minimum and hire the best psychiatrist you can find to be their roomie.
I suppose Giricek....seeing as Blount'll be leaving. He will not be or become Blount who apparently was gonna become one of your best players along with Pierce. However seeing as that is the case, you'd need someone who can help Pierce out. He's in the same boat as AI and TMac, those teams lack power, size and rebounding ability as well as defense. Therefore what you need is a C rather than a PG in this case. You need someone not really with tempo but someone who can truly dominate. I don't really see anyone who fits the bill in that department however from that list or who you can actually get your hands on. The old McDyess would've been great.
