The guy was over the top about his disdain for homosexuals. I love when these nutjobs who are radical against homo's turn out to be homo's themselves. Its the definition of irony.
I don't get how these guys were all "tricked" into having sex with him. Someone starts running at me with their cawk, I run the other direction.
OK, everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but... But this man says he is "David against Goliath". Excuse me? A millionaire, with bodyguards ahd driver, 25,000 members of his church, friends in high places, media access against 4 scared kids with nothing, knowing their entire life histories will be put on display in order to prove them "nuts and sluts". Sounds like he has David and Goliath mixed up. I used to say nothing is 100% certain except the physical laws of the universe. I now say nothing is 100% certain except the physical laws of the universe and some professional male "hate is a family value" homophobe being caught with another male. (So far never heard of a female professional "hate is a family value" homophobe being caught with another woman. Interesting.)
IMO, Long's rise to "stardom" has been about influence, power, and control. I would also say these traits are consistent with what is being portrayed by these young men. How he can separate what he's been preaching and what he's been accused of doing is beyond me, though. To me, it's, either, delusion or pure arrogance.
It doesn't have to be delusion, arrogance or anything else. It's just sin. If one goes into a situation thinking that b/c this guy is a pastor or Christian or public speaker, he's perfect, you're going to be disappointed. I guess if he would've just waited one more year until they were 18, "Monster" Long could've just had perfectly legal, perfectly acceptable intercourse with whomever he wanted and still kept preaching about whatever he wanted to--since what goes on in bedrooms is no one's business. But b/c they were 17, he's vilified even among the homosexual community for having homosexual intercourse. Unless you're saying that being a hypocrite is a felony?
hold on a second... http://www.ajc.com/news/bishop-eddie-long-charges-619267.html The AJC says that So let me get this straight...the OP's link and this AJC article are all that I've read, so I could have some facts mixed up. But this guy's being persecuted right now because he had consensual gay sex with people who are above the age of consent? And the most prominent gay-rights people on the board are calling him a nutjob and saying that he's "guilty" of something? Of what, being gay? The horror!
Brian can always be counted upon to show in equal measure lack of knowledge, lack of compassion, and bigotry.
I take offense to that. I'm much more "lack of knowledge" than "bigotry". And as for compassion...well, we'll agree to disagree. But back to the point, what exactly is he guilty of, crandc? That he's having consensual gay sex? Where's my bigotry and lack of compassion here? And where does your hypocrisy about lifestyle and choices and rights end?
I was unaware that adultery and sexual intercourse out of wedlock was being prosecuted in our country. Chalk that up to my "lack of knowledge". If this happened, I think it's horrible. As far as the laws of our land go, he's not guilty of anything. And I know for a fact that many in here don't care what the Flying Spaghetti Monster has to say about adultery or extramarital sex of any kind, so I'm trying to see what the hubbub is about.
My opinion is that your biases against men, religion and homophobes are hypocritically overcoming your biases for free expression of sexuality, homosexual rights and the assertion that "what goes on in the bedroom between consenting adults isn't anyone's business". I'm struggling to understand why that would be the case. And how that hypocracy is then turned into an attack on me, for no other reason that pointing out facts reported by the news.
