Nor can any minority, and women can't be sexist. Racism, sexism and other isms have to do with power and can't be extended to those without power. This is true and correct as I understand it, and explains some of the radical BLM people to me, but I don't like the overall message it brings. To me if a black person calls me a cracker then that's a racist remark and more than just a backwards thinking, offensive remark. If I call him a N then I'm being racist and backwards and offensive. Discuss.

    Sigh....

A better thought or statement would be How does racism effect White people Vs Black people. Sure we can be racist as hell BUT how does that Racism effect Whites as opposed to how it effects black. Louie CK sums it up nicely:

It's absolutely absurd. If you single out a social group, that is absolutely racists. Asians hating blacks, blacks hating Mexicans, whites hating asians, white hating blacks all promote backward momentum in solving very tough social challenges in society. No one gets a pass

They teach that in universities too. So hypocritical. Especially in my woman's studies classes where they talked about being marginalized, yet they marginalized handicap people in class

I think a lot of it is because of the major racial issues that have taken place in America.

These issues aren't new. There's just a 24 hour news cycle, twitter, facebook, instagram etc.

I'm really sick of debating these issues with people who don't have empathy. You guys should really stop posting them.
They aren't helping ANY of you garner any perspective....

Defeating racism is by not being racist. You don't put out fires with high octane petrol.

Dude... Where's any of anyone's empathy in this forum? If your answer to someone expressing dissatisfaction with being marginalized starts with a "yeah but", you really shouldn't comment. Really...

Try seeing through a perspective BESIDES your own.

I didn't get that. I read he's explaining that the woman's studies he goes to condones this type of thinking, yet marginalizes another class of people.

I disagree, this is a new angle on the concept for me and I felt it was a good way to bring it up for discussion. There is a wide range of opinions on here and the anonymity of the internet is a good place to get honest opinions about sensitive subjects, and not have your friends or coworkers hate you. You don't have to participate but I usually enjoy your perspective so I hope you do.

This is what I'm talking about. You wouldn't know this is going on without the internet and people sitting in the comfort of their own homes, having the ability to say what they have felt all of their lives without dealing with the repercussions of others knowing about their racism. It's nothing new. We're just getting MORE of the info and getting it in a different way. I've experienced racism on a daily. Those that don't wouldn't' know.

It's not new and it's not more prominent. The amount of news and where the news is coming from is the difference.

Correct mags. They went into how women should be able to abort handicap kids six months into a pregnancy if the odds are high the kid would be mentally stunted. Having had a brother for 14 years of my life, that passed away when he was 19 and was mentally handicap, I couldnt believe what o was hearing. They thought it would be better for themselves and the unborn baby if it was aborted. I came unglued and had to leave the classroom.

So maybe people shouldn't make comments without knowing my perspective either

Lol, this is where its coming from. My girl is taking a lot of those classes and is getting a little over the top with it. There is some credit to it though, especially for an overall social stand point. Some of the rhetoric though makes me feel diminished as an "oppressive white guy", when I feel like "hey Im on your side." Then there is programs like affirmative action that attempts to level the playing field, but instead will still lead to a company valuing race/sex when two candidates are supposedly equal, but in reality the minority might be the lesser candidate but full fills an HR gap. That seems a little counter productive and borderline discriminatory to me, even though I see the overall social value of it.

Completely agree. Went to a diversity conference for work and companies like target and Fred Meyer were talking about how they pay bonuses to managers that hire and maintain a certain number of minorities. I think having a diverse workplace is awesome. But the fact that bonuses are handed out for hiring and maintaining them, not only marginalizes them as humans, because frankly all the company seems to care about are statistics and public perception, but is also extremely unfair.

I love this bit...I think he hit it on the head when he said the N word is just a veiled get out of racism card.
