Research In Motion Ltd.’s line of BlackBerry products continue to be Canadians’ top choice for smartphones despite losing market share to devices powered by competitors Apple Inc. and Google Inc., Ipsos Reid says in a new poll released this week. In an online poll that drew responses from 46,000 Canadians during the month of August, Ipsos measured Canadians’ use of smartphones, tablets and e-readers to determine manufacturers' market share in each area and compared the results to those produced by a similar poll in January. RIM was found to have shed 3 per cent of its leading market share over the eight month period, falling from a 41 per cent share to 38 per cent in August. Those three points were absorbed by Apple’s iPhone, which climbed from 23 per cent in January to 25 per cent in August, and devices using Google’s Android mobile operating system, which climbed from 26 per cent to 27 per cent.
