Re: Blazers against the Jews game thread Wilt Chamberlain said, "Nobody pulls for Goliath." Let's go, David!
Re: Blazers against the Jews game thread Is this even the top team in Israel? Don't they have 3 or 4 Maccabi teams?
Israel is the greatest country in the world! Don't forget Jesus was one of us... Wouldn't want the Blazers to lose this one, though. It would make me and the Blazers a joke to my friends.
Re: Blazers against the Jews game thread Maccabi is some sort of an ancient super organization from the past - so many teams will have it, like "united" in British soccer (football) - they have Manchester united, Newcastle united etc... As for a top team, if memory serves, they won the championship 2 years ago (I was at a game during a business trip and the details are rather sketchy in my mind).
They played the Wizards last night, and only lost by 6. I don't understand why NBA teams sometimes barely beat these foreign teams who don't even have a player good enough to be an nba 3rd stringer.
But when the talent is that lopsided....you see NBA teams whip other NBA teams by 20. I wonder if they are even trying.
Re: Blazers against the Jews game thread There are 4 big league Maccabi teams. A week ago, Maccabi Tel Aviv lost to 2 NBA teams, Cleveland and New Jersey. http://www.eurobasket.com/Israel/games-schedule.asp?League=1&LName=Israel
They are probably about the talent level of a D-League team. This game is not even on nba.com's scoreboard, but last nights game against the Wizards is. This is like a semi-existent game.
Bro you threw me for a loop today. I thought the game was on and I was scrambling to find it. It's on tomorrow!
Aahh fuck me! I swear I thought it was on today! I even checked like 3 times. I was confused as to why I couldn't find anything about it.
Not much out there to tell you about how they will match up against the Blazers. Fact is this is pre-season and a game against an international opponent so there is very little scouting that I could find. I do know these guys can shoot the ball. That includes Alex Chubrevich who is a 7 footer that has good mobility and a pretty good presence around the basket. This team plays small and very quick. they quite usually play the three guard system and stretch the floor which is consistent for IPL. They will not back down and will be playing for the win. Some of you might remember Brody Angley out of Santa Clara. Blazers did take a look at him but he eventually went undrafted. He is a pretty good distributor of the ball and can shoot the three. Jeff Allen was a Virginia Tech guy that was just too small to play the power forward position in the NBA. He also has had weight problems but you might see a different player after shedding some pounds and the fact that he is trying to get back to the states. He needed ball handling skills and footwork so he went for playing time in Israel. Demontez Stitt might also make you look. He is out of Clemson and quick but he is just not strong enough for the NBA at this point. Another guy who is working on his game. The Blazers should run the second unit quite a bit and still get a win but who knows of course. It is pre-season after all. Have fun with it Blazer fans, Go Blazers!
