I wonder if maybe he needed to clean himself up or something (similar to that of Bayno?) and the firing was a wakeup call?

IF, and I realize it's a big IF for a lot of people....But if GM at the time Steve Patterson was indeed the one directing the 06' draft, what exactly has Pritchard done? A look at his first round picks

    07' Oden, Fernandez, Koponen
    08' Bayless, Batum
    09' Claver
    10' Babbitt, Williams

Seems to me there are a lot more misses (For many reasons) than hits in that group?

He has made 1 big move in getting Camby, but other than that has been very idle on that front as well

From what the rumors were, KP was fired b/c he didn't fire LeGarie after PA gave him the ultimatum. If he did now...what's changed?

I've heard from more than one person that it was John Gabriel who directed the 06' draft.

Really? I had always heard Patterson. Regardless, Gabiel is not Pritchard

I would completely support the idea of bringing KP back. IDK, I'm sorta surprised KP hasn't jumped on any of the open jobs elsewhere yet.

But the ridicule PA would get from both local and national media about being so flaky probably wouldn't be worth it for him to bring KP back.

He can't "jump on" any job openings because he is still under contract with the Blazers until July 1st of this year.

As for PA......"I made a huge mistake in leting go of Kevin Pritchard last year. I have apologized to him, and he was gracious enough to accept my invitation to rejoin the Blazers. Kevin is one of the brightest minds in all of basketball, and the team as well as myself personally are lucky to have him back"

I think that's all it would take for PA not to look anymore foolish than he already does

    Good point.

Is it strange that PA didn't get rid of KP's scouting staff? Maybe the firing last year was just a probation?

PA got some advice from people in the organization regarding Pritchard and Legarie. He over reacted and that is that. I have serious doubts that it is anything more than that, and I would be shocked if that relationship can be repaired. Remember one thing going forward, and you will be better off. Larry Miller is the devil. The single worst thing that has happened to this franchise maybe ever

    Don't you mean a CHObation?

In all seriousness, once I heard what it was Cho had been doing for much of this year - implementing scouting analytic tools into the talent management process - I really began to wonder if firing Cho after a year (once he'd gotten all of his nerdy stuff in place and running smoothly) was the plan all along? Whether bringing KP back was always in the cards I seriously doubt, but its interesting to think about I suppose...

Links have been provided multiple times showing that it was KP running the 2006 draft. PA specifically said it was KP.

Paul Allen would be a genius to bring the golden boy back. No one can get the fans going like him and oh yeah, he's a pretty good GM as well.

    Do it PA. Do it.

Links have also been provided where Steve Patterson has been given credit for it. Sly said it was Gabriel (unless he was joking), PA hnd the team have spun things in the past as well. Nothing either way has been shown to say who led that draft. Either way, if you include it, Aldridge, Roy, Sergio, Freeland. Only one of those four players will produce how they should in the NBA for where they wre drafted next season

I could see how this would mend some wounds with the fan base... but Paul Allen has entered, insane in the membrane, territory for me.

If you want to believe a schmuck like Steve Patterson instead of the owner of the franchise then that's on you.

You're also discounting the fact he selected a 3-time all-star, with the other player on his way to doing the same thing.

Injuries aside, the man absolutely nailed that draft and the course of the franchise changed on that day.

I wasn't joking. I heard KP wanted LMA and Roy and it was Gabriel who made the deals happen. It took some aggressive moves to get Roy, the type of moves we never saw KP make again.

Injuries aside he nailed the 07' draft as well then?

Aldridge is the only player from that draft that will produce next year like he should for where he was drafted.
