This team is an embarrassment. Olshey totally hosed us when Wes got hurt. There are only two talented players on the roster and they play the same position. We're going to suck for a loooooooong time.
Not sure they need to blow it up, but I think it is done baking. Would really like to see a major trade or two though that would dramatically change the lineup. At least 2-3 starters moved with some players committed to defense brought in.
What does "blow this team up" mean to you? Does it mean putting Lillard and McCollum on trade block? Because everyone else on the roster is small potatoes and it would just be reshuffling to trade them.
IMO you have to reshuffle. That is the only option. Find a few "small step forward" trades to get out from these terrible contracts that Crabbe and Meyers have. Keep shuffling until you have something.
Lillard will not be moved. He is Portland now. Period. Just as Roy was Portland etc. The original poster is right. The roster needs to be fixed and fixed with the players Olshey signed for that very purpose who suddenly can't because they don't want his garage contracts. Olshey is responsible. He has players that don't want to be here. That need to be gone. Until that happens it's going to be hell for Coach Stotts to do anything.
IMO, no one should "be Portland." At least, if a winning team matters more than a connection to a player (that isn't meant to be sarcastic--different people could have different priorities). I personally prioritize a successful, fun-to-watch team. Lillard is fun to watch and a very good player, but if he were the key to a (positive) transformational trade, I'd be in favor of it.
I was actually thinking of making that same joke. But we don't need another guy who doesn't play defense.
Precisely. And then he willingly screwed the team over by signing with Minnesota, then retired and barely acknowledges the city. All that emotional fan loyalty didn't work out so well, did it?
Meh, I have no harsh feelings towards Roy. He brought us out of the dumpster and I will always appreciate that.
