"Only a few days ago, Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo didn't know if he'd be suiting up for the team's regular-season opener. A hip-flexor strain suffered in a preseason game Sept. 24 had kept him off the ice for almost two weeks in training camp.

Not only was Colaiacovo in the lineup Saturday against Philadelphia, he was flexing his muscles after a rifle shot past Flyers goalie Brian Boucher for a 2-1 overtime win in front of a sell-out crowd of 19,150 at Scottrade Center.

It's only one game, but for Colaiacovo, who said he "wants to be a big part of this team moving forward," and the Blues, who are hoping for some bounces to go their way, it was a thrilling finish to the opening-night festivities.

"It was a good start ... there was a good buzz in the building," Blues defenseman Eric Brewer said. "It was just a good all-around game for us. They have a very, very good team. It was an excellent game to play and it had to be an excellent game to watch."

That's true, unless you're the coach of the Blues' power play. The unit went one for 10 on the night, including 0 for seven with a 5-on-4 advantage. The Blues did pick up a first-period power-play goal from Brad Boyes, but that was with a 5-on-3 advantage."
