To make it fair for all other teams. It will go usual, the top 3 getting selected by the lottery and then they put the bobcats in and then the rest.
Sportsrock is exactly right. Basically, the league always reserves the top 3 spots to teams that have played the previous season due to the way the lottery works(you're really only in the lottery for those spots; if you don't win you get to choose in reverse record order). Usually they'll make an expansion team draft even lower than 4, so the Bobcats were lucky in that respect. They're also lucky that that's their only limitation. The Raptors and Grizz had a similar restriction, plus they couldn't have the top pick the following lottery. The Raps actually won the lotto the following season, and were given the #2 pick instead, while the Grizz got the 3rd pick.

But the Raps didn't get a bad pick out of that, they took Marcus Camby.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting franchise3:</div><div class="quote_post">That there says it all. But the Raps didn't get a bad pick out of that, they took Marcus Camby.</div> Err.... hope that was sarcasm, because I concider that a horrible choice at #2. We are talking about Marcus Camby who played 2 seasons with Toronto, then was traded for Charles Oakley, then went on to be known as the guy on IR. He finally found a role in Denver as a defensive shot blocker. He never got near what I thought he'd be coming out of UMass. So yeah he was a bad #2 pick, seeing how they could have gotten... Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen, Kobe Bryant, Predrag Stojakovic, or Jermaine O'Neal. Raptors could've drafted Allen Iverson if the NBA let them have the #1 pick. I rather like the rule expansion teams can't get the #1 pick and all that... they are supposed to suck, teams that have been around for many years and still suck deserve those things
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting eginobili20:</div><div class="quote_post">that means bobcats dont have anybody right now right? WHo do you guys think theyre gonna get?</div> Marcus Fizer is one I think they might get. I hope they get Swift, but he's starting to play well for Memphis, and he might be a protected player. Hopefully they don't pick any of the young Laker guys who they can't protect! If they take Rush, Slava, or Cook I'm going to go insane, and for atleast one of the three there might be a chance they will not be protected... scary thought!
Rush wouldn't be a bad choice. He showed glimpses of greatness as a Laker. If he gets out of subbing for Kobe, I think he can at least go for 16 ppg and shoot 40% from beyond the arc.
I agree Rush wouldnt be a bad choice. Stro would hold his own if he was there, and I dont know much about marcus fizer.. so let me get this straight each NBA team gets to protect 8 of there players that the bobcats cant take.
Yes.... <div class="quote_poster">Quoting L.Sooch:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree Rush wouldnt be a bad choice. Yes it is. The Bobcats can choose any of the players that the teams don't protect. I think they can only select one player from each team. Like say the Kings have 2 playesr that the Bobcat's like, they can only choose 1 from there or something like that. Or maybe they have to wait a couple of picks or something.

Other threads have the full rules, and I've even posted odd rules which will be used and abused.
New to site and just wanted get involved. Don't know how much I'll be on the board but I'm excited about the future of the Bobcats.
Can't wait! <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kat:</div><div class="quote_post">I can't wait to see what happens in the expansion draft and rookie draft! June will be soon!</div> I cannot wait either Kat!!! Let's get some new, fresh Bobcats news already!!!! lol!
