Not only that, but Dion Glover is a better player in my opinion. Bringing Diaw-Riffiod off the bench is the right move for right now.
Diaw looks like a really good rookie. He kind of reminds me of Penny (not the good orlando penny but the average Phoenix Penny ) In my opinion, Terry doesn't do a good job of running an offense, and a guy like Diaw would be a perfect compliment for him...
Diaw is not a scorer. In France, he struggled to score more than 10 points. Yet, he was this league MVP because of his rare quality, he makes players around him better. I don't think he has Penny like offense, and he is already a great defender, I see him a "Pippenesque" player, yet without the scoring, but the same feeling for the game.
That's a good analogy. In fact, many scouts called him the Pippen of his French team, with Mickael Pietrus the MJ of the team. I think Diaw in the starting lineup could work as early as next season, with Glover as a sixth man. But this season he's been inconsistent, which isn't unexpected for a rookie. I have a feeling that he'll have a larger part on this team than just feeding Terry though, who may be gone by season's end. Diaw is probably one of the young building blocks Atlanta will keep as they continue in this next phase of rebuilding.
I think it is important to remember that Diaw certainly did not 'struggle' to score 10 ppg for France but chose not to. His lack of scoring should be attributed to lack of agressiveness and not mistaken for lack of ability.
Of course he is talented enough to score, but he prefers giving the ball rather than scoring. It's something rare & great, but it's time to show his offensive game, or he will end up being unable to score because no used to do so. He really struggled at times to score, such as his poor performance with the France national team where he couldn't qualify his team to the Olympic Games, despite playing in the most French athletic team ever. His team needed a scorer to help T.Parker but couldn't find one in Diaw because he can't score at will, even if he wanted to do so.
he gets no respect from da toronto play by play, whenver he scored leo would say give him da shot cause he cant shoot
Diaw travells the ball so many times. He travelled atleast 5 times in games against TO. Probably more than that.
Everybody travels these days - I remember when "palming" used to be illegal - now there isn't a point guard out there who doesn't do it every time he handles the ball. I love Diaw's game, I think he will become a decent scorer in this league, if he's able to put up 15 points per game, that would be enough. He's still only 22, give him some time and he'll become a better shooter. I see him as an all-star candidate in the next 3 to 4 seasons.
He's in the Pippen mold. Not that he's gonna be as great as Pip, but he has that all around game which includes everything, not just all around on offense. He's proving that his D matches his offensive potential, something that scouts didn't think he'd possess while playing in Europe.
He has a great upside, and I think that in 2 or 3 years he could average -12pts 8rb 5ast 2st- type of numbers...
Thanks to him, Atlanta are winning some games. He can't score much but he is a great defensive player. (Recently, he made Jalen Rose absolutely lost on the court...)
Diaw is a very good player, very well balanced, a hardworker one of the better and only good players on the Hawks. He actually has D, unlike Terry. He can shoot it just as well as well. Either I hope the Hawks improve or him and SAR move so they can become bigger and get their well deserved props.
Diaw should have the ball more often. He can be a pretty good creator, and even if he can't score more than 12 on regularly basis, he can really produce in every other aspects of the game. He will be the future for this team. Terry & Abdur-Rahim will definitely leave this team sooner or later... Give him a Lebron James-type of playing time (40min), and let him be the guy with the ball in his hand, and he will be a - 8pts 7rb 6pd 2st 3to 1bl - player.
