Despite the mega fights of the past they were so few and far between and despite not so great cards the fact we get to see fights a lot more than once a year i have to say MMA But for event vs event boxing by far was and is better than MMA BTW for me when I say boxing hey day I say 80's, 90's and early 2000's with Tyson, Hagler, Hearnes, De la Hoya, Jones Jr, Sugar Ray, Barraera, Gotti days
Boxing is fun to watch always, but for pay-per-view events, you get more for your money from MMA events than Boxing events. (lot more fights, KOs, submissions, etc)
Boxing is the long time champ and MMA is quickly becoming the more exciting sport. I agree with CK, you get more for your money when it comes to MMA Pay Per Views.
Boxing was the best combat sport out there before MMA really started to heat up. I followed Tyson and Hagler throughout their careers and still think they are the two greatest fighters of their generations. I personally feel however that MMA is the complete combat sport.
Boxing will always be popular in certain regions, like Latin America, but it is on the decline. They are going to have trouble building stars like Mayweather in the future. I'm a boxing fan and I don't think boxing and MMA are in such direct competition, but I prefer MMA.
I follow boxing as well though, especially with having Luan Krasniqi (over in Europe) and Elvir Muriqi here in NY as boxers. (from my country of course)
I gave up on Boxing a loooong time ago. Around the time that piece of trash Don King became Mike Tyson's promoter. Tyson listened to that piece of shit and it ruined his career. Instead of being one of the top 4-5 boxers of all time, he will be remembered more for his freak show antics and losing to a lazy dud in Buster Douglas. Boxing is corrupt and I hope MMA never follows in it's footsteps. It's the main reason I don't want to see so many different orgs.. sure competition may be great and all, but it also leads to multiple titles, questions as to who is the best at different weight classes and top fighters potentially never meeting each other. Give me the NBA/NFL/MLB of MMA so we have the best facing the best 90% of the time.
^ Great point CF. Two leagues is the most we need, maybe just UFC and EliteXC, and then have one event every 6 months where top fighters from each league fight each other for the top spot.
Lennox Lewis really turned me off from boxing, I used to hate watching him box. Dude would just stand back and use his reach to fight, then if they got in close, he would just clench with them and get it broken apart. When he wasn't able to do that(Vitale fight,) thing's didn't go to well for him. Because of that, I have grown to not really go out of my way to watch boxing. If it's there I will, but I don't particularly care to watch it. MMA I will go out of my way to watch. In the MMA world, if you decide to clench, the fighting keeps going. It doesn't quite give someone the advantage just because of reach or anything, and people can't just clench when they want to get it broken apart. I much prefer MMA.
