A big story around the Washington Wizards for the next nine months will be their assumed goal of trying to lure Kevin Durant to the Washington, D.C. area in free agency. Durant is from that neck of the woods, and with all of the stories about LeBron James going back home to Cleveland and Carmelo Anthony going back home to New York, the Wizards want to be the next team to benefit from a star deciding to head back to their roots.

Part of attaining that will be maintaining the flexibility with the salary cap to give Durant his big deal. One way they can do that is by keeping the smaller salary cap hold of Bradley Beal in his restricted free agency next summer as they sign Durant and then getting Beal the big contract he's expected to get off his rookie deal. Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reported the Wizards had offered an extension that was below the max amount out to Beal and his agent. However, Beal said on the Wizards' media day that he hadn't been offered a contract extension.
