Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry is close to parting ways with the franchise less than two weeks after the dismissal of coach Mike Brown, triggering a dramatic reshaping of the team’s brain trust as it desperately tries to retain LeBron James(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Ferry’s contract ends this summer. He had said after the Cavaliers’ second-round loss to the Boston Celtics that he would speak with owner Dan Gilbert to decide whether it was best for him to continue as GM. Gilbert seemed open to having him stay, but Ferry, who was disappointed about having to fire Brown, a close confidante from their days with the San Antonio Spurs, decided to leave less than a month before James becomes a free agent.

Assistant GM Chris Grant is expected to take over for Ferry.

It sure looks like they are trying, but unfortunally it doesn't seem they will make 'Bron stay.

    Player/Headcoach/GM

I think he's talented enough and has the all-around game to pull it off. Check the $tats if you don't believe me haters.

David Aldridge is reporting, Gilbert wants more influence in the decisions. Saw it on NBATV.

He wanted to change internal structure and give less individual power to Ferry.

    Sorry but ....

Meanwhile, the acquisitions of Larry Hughes, Mo Williams, Shaquille O'Neal and Antawn Jamison all have been made at James' behest, sources say.

Antawn, Mo, and Shaq were acquired for free. What is your point?

Shape, please stop reaching. I know you don't like him but that article was poorly written back then and it is still now.

They got Antawn for Z, who came back (Jamison for nothing). The got Mo Williams for Damon Jones . I'd laugh my ass off if people are upset about that.

They traded the worst basketball-player in the league and Ben Wallace, for Shaq. Who's now off the books. Hughes was the only star Free Agent they could get, then they got rid of him after he got injured.

Ok in Shape's world, they should keep Ben Wallace and Sasha, exchange Jamison for Z, and trade Mo for Damon Jones.

This is a headscratcher for me. Getting rid of the Coach, GM and star player all in the same off season? Dan Gilbert is crazy.

Well, getting rid of the coach wasn't really a head scratcher, and it's not like Ferry was the worlds greatest GM.

They could be doing all this so they can allow LeBrick to name his own coach or GM if he resigns.

Don't know about the others, but Lebron wanted Amare, not Jamison.
