I don't think he was the cause of this. I think this was inevitable.

There are lots of fighters looking for jobs tonight. I hope several of them come the way of WEC and UFC.

I can't shake the notion that Ken Shamrock cutting himself in training may have directly lead to the downfall of the entire brand. Amazing.

all joking aside, there is some good established talent the UFC could scoop up and some solid HW prospects that would seriously bolster the UFC's HW division.

    here's a list of some fighters the UFC should and probably will pick up;

Jake Shields - a top 5 welter weight fighter and the only top 10 fighter at 170 not employed by Zuffa (Carlos Conduit being a top 10 fighter but with the WEC). This is the best fighter the UFC can pick up.

Nick Diaz - yeah they let him go, but he's an entertaining fighter and personality, worth another investment
Murilo 'Ninja' Rua - not a title contender, but Shogun's brother puts on good fights and if his asking price isn't too high, is a solid pick up.
Robbie Lawler - another guy who was in the UFC, has grown a lot as a fighter and since he trains with Matt Hughes, is probably in good standing.
Joey Villasenor - I think he has a contract with strikeforce, so he may be a no go, but still a very good 185'er
Hector Lombard - not a big name fighter, but fought in Pride and is a great prospect.
Rafael Feijao - trains with the Nogeuira's brothers and Anderson Silva's camp, is 7-1 and one of the best 205 prospects around.. Dana will scoop this guy up, I'm fairly certain of it.
Jared Hamman - who? this guys is 11-1 and has beaten some solid 205'ers outside the UFC. He could be headed for the UFC, but 205 is quite crowded, so he's on the fence IMO.
Givanildo Santana - another 11-1 fighter who's not been on the big stage, he's not fought as many big names and may need a few quality wins before heading to the UFC's deepest division too.
Paul 'Semtex' Daley - just had a good fight with Jake Shields, he has already retired once and come back too at age 25. I can see him settling for staying in the UK, but then again the UFC may want him for being a big hit in the UK ;)
KJ Noons - got fired from Elite XC for not re-matching with Nick Diaz, but heck anyone who pisses off Elite XC may be Dana's type of guy. So long as KJ's manager doesn't go crazy with the demands... which is very likley to happen.
Wilson Reis - 145 pounder who is 6-0. could end up in the WEC and helllllllllo Urijah Faber! Reis may have a short stay in the WEC :D

Now for the HW's that will be available.
Antonio Silva - currently suspended for testing positive for steroids, if he lowers his asking price (Elite paid him over 100K I believe) the UFC will scoop him up. otherwise he's most likely affliction bound.
Brett Rogers - a real HW prospect who Elite wouldn't let near their prized Kimbo Slice.. most likley because they knew he'd run over him. Brett is 7-0
Dave Herman - Kinda like Shane Carwin, he's older but a great fighter. He trains by himself and thus far it's working. he's 11-0
Jon Murphy - has a 4-2 record, with one of his losses vs Brett Rogers, he's a solid banger and a former Syracuse football player. He'd still bring some athleticism and exciting fights to the UFC.

Scott Smith may be in limbo, he just left the UFC last year, not sure if I see him coming back. He may be Affliction bound.

so those are some of the guys I'm sure the UFC is looking at. They may also look at some of the prospects for the next TUF series too ;)

If ever there was a time for the UFC to start up a woman's division, this would be that time. I know Dana has said he doesn't like to see woman fight, but even he must have noticed the ratings for Gina Carano's fights on CBS.... something to think about for sure.

Kimbo wouldn't fight as a heavyweight in the UFC I bet. He'd have to cut to 205. But the 205-lbs division in the UFC is the most stacked division in the history of MMA, so he'd be in serious trouble. Kimbo will never be in the UFC. Affliction maybe.

so speeds, it that list comprehensive enough or did I miss anyone from Elite?

I wonder what this means for Icon, Cage Rage and King of the Cage...

I think that's as good a list of EXC fighters possible.

I would imagine Icon, CR, and KOTC will fold if they can't be sold to new owners.

Benji Radich... You missed him. He put on an exiting fight with Ninja, and kicked Ninja's ass. Dude is explosive, and could fit in with the middleweight division quite easily.

Yeah, it seems like he's improved since his last stint in the UFC. His run through the IFL leading up to the fight with Matt Horwich has built his confidence.

Ninja is really inconsistent, though. I don't want to take Radach's win away from him, but sometimes Ninja doesn't have his head in the fight.
