GracieFighter.com, the website for Nick Diaz's trainer Cesar Gracie, is reporting that the UFC's loss is Strikeforce's gain. They want to set up Roy Jones Jr. vs. Nick Diaz in the cage under MMA rules, and reportedly both parties have agreed. Showtime, however, hasn't--yet.

The UFC has taken the stance that "freak show" fights aren't good for the sport in the long term, which is I guess a way of saying they either gain very little with a win, or lose a ton in a loss, in terms of credibility.

Still, it will be one of the most anticipated MMA fights ever.

Take that, Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer.

If Diaz tries to box with RJJ, he gets knocked out. Pretty quick. He needs to kick RJJ in the legs. That'll be a new experience for him. Then he needs to get a hold of him, wait for him to panic, and choke him out.

Sounds retarded. Jones gets schooled in the first 3 minutes.

Yeah. Isn't Diaz an insane martial artist of some kind? Obviously if he tries to box him he'll get destroyed (especially with Diaz's slow ass striking- dude looks like hes in slow mo). But the whole point of MMA fighters > boxers is that they don't have to just box, they can and should beat the boxers in other ways.

It'll be interesting, I'd definitely watch.

Diaz should be able to go in for the take down and submit him all day long.

Yeah but he might think of it as a wasted opportunity if he doesn't at least give him a few minutes of stand-up first.

I agree with you guys. It will be interesting to see who leads in the fight though. Does Roy Jones come flying in trying to land a knockout punch or does Diaz stalk him and close the distance to take Roy to the ground?

Diaz's take downs are not that good IMO. He's usually happy to be put on his back and attempt subs from there.
If RJJ goes to say ExtremeCouture to learn some basic takedown defense he may be able to keep it standing.
