A nine year old boy in Hohman Indiana shot his eye out this morning. At the protest of his mother, he recieved a Red Ryder, carbine action, 200 shot range model air rifle. The boy, named Ralphie proceed to pratice shooting targets in the back yard. A BB bounced off a metal sign and knocked off his glasses, leaving a small cut by his eye. He ran inside to tell his parents what had happened, when it went off again. This time the BB hit and shattered a leg lamp belonging to his father. His mother rejoiced. A memorial service for the Lamp will be held at St. Francis's Church Saturday at 1pm.
Nice Christmas story. One of my all time favorites. But you left out the part about the tongue and the freezing lamp post. When I was about ten, my father bought me a Red Ryder BB gun. I must have shot at and missed more than a thousand little birds. One time, in a neighbor's back yard, I shot and hit a little birdie. It fell out of a tree and onto the ground feet up and deader than a door nail. I started to cry for the poor little birdie. Then a miracle occurred and the little birdie staggered to it's feet obviously just temporarily stunned and not dead at all. As it flew away, I was shooting at it again. Little boys are incorrigible.
