The Milwaukee Brewers have asked the Chicago White Sox for permission to interview Joey Cora for their managerial position, according to a source familiar with the situation.

But Cora had not heard from the Brewers as of early Thursday afternoon, according to a source.

Former Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin is considered a favorite for the Brewers job, and he's also a candidate for the Chicago Cubs job, according to a source.

Cora was a finalist for the Seattle Mariners job before the Mariners hired Don Wakamatsu in 2009.
