The Bears didn’t waste any time working with Lance Briggs to make play calls for the defense in Friday’s first practice of training camp. Linebackers coach Tim Tibesar called in the plays via radio to the speakers in Briggs’ helmet during 11-on-11 drills something the team hadn’t always done in the past when veteran Brian Urlacher was handling the chores. Briggs volunteered for the role and it makes sense as he’s the only returning starter at that level of the defense in the system. Typically the task goes to the middle linebacker who is D.J. Williams a former Bronco. It didn’t take long for Briggs to catch some heat from teammates giving him a hard time. Briggs was talking about the previous play when the huddle broke before hearing the entire call. He blurted out a random play at the last second. - See more at: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...lance-briggs-defense-20130726,0,4998841.story
