I know this could be thought of as regression or revisiting something that didn't work but as I look at Webster's stats since Ariza's gone out in Washington he's really been very good. The guy is still fairly young, seems to have regained all of his athleticism, played great defense in Portland the one season he was a starter here. Also, think of how much Batum and Matthews have improved here once in a real offensive system under Stotts. I can't help but think we'd see a similar improvement from Webster (over when he was here) playing with a real PG for once (not Steve Damn Blake) and in a real offensive system instead of parked in a corner. I also really like Seraphin from the Wiz. He's been disappointing over there this year, but he's got a lot of potential and is a big body (although not tall) to pair with Aldridge. A three way rotation of Aldridge, him, and Leonard may work well down the line and be a better pairing than Hickson. Speaking of Hickson, pretty much no way we're able to resign him for a decent value and get a center. So we're in an odd place with him. He has to agree to any trade we make with him, but in Washington he could audition for a starting spot at PF, play a ton down the stretch, and that team does have some potential for next year if Wall got healthy. Lillard Matthews/Webster Batum/Webster Aldridge/Freeland Seraphin/Leonard Claver, Babbit, Barton (spot minutes, maybe trade) Wall/Crawford Beal/Crawford Ariza Hickson/Okafor Nene/Okafor Plus a top three pick from this draft. Too bad there isn't a slam dunk SF, but I guess they could draft Shabazz and move Beal or draft a C and move Nene for a SF. Nene is still young enough to fit their core.
I wouldn't mind it. I think Martel is a FA at the end of the season, wouldn't mind him being the "fourth" guy we pivcked up with the mini mid level after we use the majority of cap space on 3 better players.
Unless we're talking the minimum, no thanks. He's obviously a solid athlete with good size and of course a lights out outside shooter when he's on, but thats right about never. Despite having many positive attributes he's just not very good at playing basketball. STOMP
At the ripe old age of 26, Webster is posting career bests in PER, TS%, Ast%, Ortg, Drtg, and WS/48. Is it too much of a stretch to think that perhaps he's actually developed into a decent basketball player?
Outlaw and Webster gave me nightmares; just like Babbitt does. When they are on; they look like superstar talent. But the problem is they hardly were in Portland; or maybe not consistent enough. Now it could have been products of Roy taking the flow away; but look what outlaw is doing now. As for Webster... I've always been a fan of him and seemed to overlook many inconsistent games; hoping for those 20 point quarters. I always looked at Webster as a guy that had a superstar physic and talent; but a high schooler mentality. If that changed; then I'd be ecstatic to bring him back. If the slightest form of break down under pressure still exists; then playing in Portland is not a good idea; IMO.
My order of players that I would take back are: Patty Cakes Jarrett Jack Rudy (believe it or not) Then Webster Dante Cunningham Nothing much beyond that. (Maybe Frye if healthy? - Probably not)
Probably best to leave Martell in the past-tense for Blazers roster. But, he seems to becoming more consistent and that was a major problem while he was here. I wouldn't say no. He makes $1.7M and is a UFA at the end of the year. Like others, I wouldn't make him a top priority with cap dollars. But the mini? Yeah I'd do that.
I just hated how he would constantly turn the ball over in crunch time. The foot out of bounds or dribbling off his foot made me go bat shit crazy! But I loved Jack man. The dude reminds me a lot like Matthews type of player. Workhorse, doesn't complain, puts out 100% effort every night. The more of those type of players the better, IMO.
