Brock Lesnar has retired following a loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 in Las Vegas on December 30th, 2011. Lesnar's five-year MMA career took him from relative greenhorn to UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World in just four fights, and he became the first UFC HW Champion to defend his title twice in a long time defeating Frank Mir and Shane Carwin in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Lesnar battled diverticulitis twice in recent years, both times resulting in long layoffs, but kept coming back to MMA out of a love of competition. Following the Overeem fight, his second loss in as many fights, Lesnar admitted that he planned to retire if he lost or retire win or lose in his next fight, presumably a title fight with incumbent champion Junior dos Santos. Lesnar finishes with a 5-3 record.
