Gallant says kakko sat cause he’s trying to win a game. With a crippled strome and a suckball hunt?? Either gallant is gone or kakko is gone. Don’t see how they can be together after this. Will have to trade kakko if that’s what it ends up being to a team that can match any offer sheet he gets. Just do t know what to say about this. This kid is 21 and needs time to develop. Hate the fact if gallant stays he’s gonna get traded

I've voiced my disagreement many times in the past about how Kakko (and Lafreniere) has been handled. It would be a shame to just trade him without him ever having a true, real opportunity with a large run of games on the first 2 lines and PP units. I would agree with Brooks that if Kakko is going to not sign an extension (assuming one is offered) and prefers to get to July to hopefully get an offer sheet that he should be traded ahead of that and make him part of a package for a young, established player, preferable 2C.

I don't want Gallant fired. You have a GM to lead a coach to what is best for the organization. Drury needs to either fix the development of our young forwards and the Kakko-Gallant relationship or decide to move Kakko in a deal. The Rangers are bad at developing forwards. They need to improve on that.

Kakko can't stay healthy long enough to develop.

Bullshit. That's just bailing the organization out of their incompetent stupidity. Their development of forwards is atrocious. That being said, if you aren't going to have both Lafreniere and Kakko on the first PP unit next season it's a problem. Lafreniere will be there. If there is no spot for Kakko and I'm sure he doesn't think there is, he's a big offer sheet candidate which I said over a month ago. Then it's wise to see what he can bring back in a deal.

LAF yes, Kakko yes but he needs to be a lot better. He still has time and should go from 20 pts to 40 pts next year

For Kakko not to test the RFA waters and an offer sheet he'd probably need a commitment from the club that he will be getting appropriate minutes next season and beyond, which given his healthy scratch in Gm 7 they are not likely to make. Will be interesting to see how it plays out but it would be a failure by the organization if Kakko ends up traded only 3 years after being drafted as the #2 pick. Either they fucked up with the pick itself or his development, but either way they fucked up.

What do you consider to be a big offer sheet?

“It’s never fun when you’re not making the lineup,” Kakko said via SNY Rangers. “I wasn’t so happy about that.”

However, when specifically asked if that would impact his contract decision the response was quick.

“I don’t think so, I like to play here,” Kakko said. “I think [the scratch] gives me more motivation. I want to show I’m better than that. You should put me in the lineup because I’m a good player.”

Unlike some, Kakko sees it as a challenge and motivation to improve. That is the way he should see it, and he should embrace the challenge. Sounds like he wants to.

What else would you expect him to say? I think at this point he will either sign in the next 2 weeks or drury will trade him to a team that can’t be offersheeted so they don’t lose him for nothing.

The conspiracy theories are alive and well. Not the player, the coaches fault. If the player says something, what else would he say. When the coach says something, there must be a bigger reason.

For his sake I hope Kakko does see it as a challenge and motivation, whether he is a Ranger or not. That is the right approach and focus inward on getting better, and not blaming others.

I hope he likes playing here. If I was another team I would offer him 7 y, 49 million. He'll be 28 at the end of that contract. It's a no brainer. Give him close to 20 min of icetime and first PP time all the time, he's put up 60+ points next season. He's also outstanding on defense. He has selke qualities.

WOW - that is a reach. 7 mill per for a guy who has done almost nothing so far. I wish you were a GM in the same league I was in...LOL.

I'm not saying he won't be a very good player still, but that would be a WAY overpay for what you'd need to pay him now given his performance, and his RFA no arbitration rights status.

And if you feel that about Kakko, you must think Lafreniere is putting up 80 points next season, and winning awards also, because he is different level than Kakko so far.

Dump, that’s an absurd amount of money for Kakko at this point and I like Kakko. I was pretty pissed seeing him getting scratched by Gallant. Give him a bridge deal to keep him motivated. You don’t hand out contracts like that to young guys hoping he will put up 60 points. It sounds like he had the right attitude unlike Kravtsov.

Not a reach at all. I told you. The Rangers are retards developing young forwads. They are the only team I've seen that drafts a guy in the top 2 that doesn't put him on the first PP unit with 18+ minutes of icetime. If Kakko goes to another team you will see him flourish. Look at what Kotkaniemi got and he is shit compared to what Kakko is. Only a retarded organization like the Rangers would take a guy with Kakko's offensive gifts and put him in a checking role. That is why this organization has one cup in 80+ years.

    1. Doesn't seem to be hurting Lafreniere.
    2. You are missing the point - you don't have to give him near that much to sign him long term whether you are the Rangers or some other team. You need to manage the cap, and giving a totally unproven player like Kakko $7M per, when you could get him for half that on a multi year deal, is terrible business, even if he turns out to be a star.

If another team is willing to extended him an offer sheet of $7m/yr for 7 years the Ranger better have Kakko's agent on speed dial letting him walk....
Can any sane person imagine another team, first off, willing to give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick for guy who has played and accomplished as little as Kakko AND THEN having to pay that guy $7,000,000 per year?!
For the Rangers sake, I hope that scenario does play out. I'd help pack his bags.
However, IF and that is a huge IF Kakko gets an offer sheet and it's under $4.2M AAV the Rangers should/will absolutely match it. If it's in that next range of $4.2 - $6.3m range they'll have to consider matching for anything under say $5m. $5M+ and its adios, give me the 1st and 3rd round picks. Would likely allow them to resign an extra one of the 4 UFAs.

No I’m not missing shit. When teams make offer sheets to restricted free agents they are always absurd money. The Rangers are one of the best teams in all of hockey developing young defenseman and goalies. They are easily one of the worst developing young forwards. Anybody who disputes that is a fucking moron. Messier who does not heap praise on many players heaped praise on Kakko saying he’s going to be a playoff beast. However the Rangers organization is fucking retarded and can’t seem to grasp it. That is the reason they have one cup in 80+ years. The reason Hank never won a cup and his career was because the dumb fucks couldn’t give him enough offense
