Not upset by this hire. Gallant is a solid NHL coach, the best available in a whatever coaching pool this year I think (assuming Brind'Amour stays with the Canes). With that said, he doesn't get me all fired up. Good solid hire though. Now onto to the big moves to come this summer.

No complaints. It's pretty clear to me the Canes are not letting Brind'amour get away. Rangers couldn't afford to have another team swoop in on who they wanted. I like the fit. Still have plenty of roster holes to fill though.

Will have a better idea of drury after draft and once free agency and trades are done. Right now too many unanswered questions with thos team.

DiGuiseppe, Blackwell, Jones, Gauthier, Howden, Bitetto, Rooney (I don’t mind him) have to go.

I am going out on a limb and predicting Blackwell will be taken in the expansion draft. Gauthier will be a piece in a trade for C.

Even though he's only signed for one more year, Blackwell is alot more useful than Howden. I agree too that Gauthier would have appeal to a team making a big trade, even though he hasn't shown alot so far. He would be a nice 4th/5th piece to a deal.

Yeah, I don't mind Blackwell. He's on the small side but he plays hard. Sucks for him his breakout season came at age 28.
As for Gauthier...Exactly...he's a "what the heck, if it works out, great. if not, well whatever" type of trade piece.

They can protect one of Blackwell or Gauthier. I think Blackwell was the choice initially, now maybe it isn't so clear if Gallant is a fan of Gauthier. The one they don't protect or Howden is the guy we'll most likely lose.

Here is a great article on what Jagr had to say about the Rangers.

    https://info.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-new...l85yjarvHVM4LMlvzz1d-vPKCmaauxQLAZ9KeUmLdIvYE

NYR Fan, Jagr explains well why Quinn lost the room. Quinn is simply not a great coach and it is apparent that he lost trust with his top players. We all run to judgment on Dolan firing Gorton but we don't know details of that conversation. There were number of issues that had to be addressed: "Tom Wilson problem", Quinn problem which is clear, overstocking on picks. If Gorton refused to fire Quinn and that was the focus of Dolan's decision then I support Dolan. If Gorton refused to get a few enforces for next year, then I support Dolan. We simply don't know, but one thing for sure Quinn had to go. I am very happy with the choice Rangers made, I think it is a fantastic hire. He may not be the best coach in the NHL, but from what is available great job by Drury.

    Jagr's quotes:

“He (Gallant) is tough but friendly and he is honest with the players,” Jagr told The New York Post on Tuesday from his home in the Czech Republic. “In my opinion, with the players having so much power, that is the way a coach has to be. You can’t threaten to send players down or take away their ice time. That does not work.

“You have to be honest with the top guys and create trust with them. You have to be tough but you have to create the [environment] so players want to play for you and will do extra. That’s the way I see it. And that’s the way he is, not only with the top guys but with everyone, no matter who you are.”

“He was a very good player, he was a star in the NHL, playing with a star like Stevie Yzerman in Detroit. So he knows what the stars need. Nobody can really tell you that. It’s something you have to feel. It’s something you have to know. You need the personal experience. That’s a big advantage.”

“He knows what the stars need, but if they are not playing well, it doesn’t matter who they are, they won’t get the normal ice time,” Jagr said. “One of the other things I really like about the way he coaches is that he doesn’t change lines that often. He doesn’t mix up things just to do something.”

What a great statement by Jagr...makes complete sense. Personally I like the consistency....."You can’t threaten to send players down or take away their ice time. That does not work."
He knows what the stars need, but if they are not playing well, it doesn’t matter who they are, they won’t get the normal ice time,

Seems a little contradictory Grey...lol. I like his overall take though.

Gauthier has size, speed and a shot that very few have in the league. His defense was not good last year. He's a kid. You don't play schmucks over him like Quinn did because he makes defensive mistakes or takes some dumb penalties. You keep working with him. Quinn sucked. Period.

I like Jagr and loved him as a Ranger. He was a stud and lead the franchise back to relevancy after 8 years of embarassment.

It will be interesting to see if Gallant can get Kreider to stop playing 75% of this games like a pussy and actually play physical.
