"With all the snow, I didn't think he'd have much of a chance to play here," Ann Brown said.
Now the family is coming back to Utah, so Brown can once again have a chance to play.
Brown, a 6-foot-5 guard, signed a two-year deal with the Jazz on Wednesday after passing his physical. He'll earn slightly more than $5 million for the two years.
Brown played in 67 games for the NBA champion Spurs last year, averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 18.5 minutes per game.
Brown had a career-high 24 points against Washington in January, but played sparingly at the end of the season after suffering a herniated disk in his back in March.
The injury probably is one of the reasons few teams pursued the swingman, and it has given him some added motivation. The Spurs, who won the bidding war for Dallas' Michael Finley, declined to match Utah's offer for the restricted free agent.
"It's driving me every day," he said. "To be in a situation where teams backed off me because of the back, even seeing some of the moves the Spurs made, that is what keeps me up at night." </div>
