"Hopefully, this position will further Jeff's career down the road and help the Cleveland Browns in the immediate future."Davidson worked last season to bring continuity to a Browns offensive line that included free agents Joe Andruzzi, Cosey Coleman and L.J. Shelton, along with returning starters Jeff Faine and right tackle Ryan Tucker.Davidson has been an assistant coach for 12 seasons. He joined the Browns after working as an assistant in New England for eight seasons. The Akron native was a four-year letterman at Ohio State and earned All-Big Ten honors before being drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1990. Actually, since Crennell was there theyve assembled a fine staff, they just dont have the players to be successful just yet...another strong draft/offseason like last years and they could be very competitve though.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DW20 @ Jan 24 2006, 04:24 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'> Why would you promote anybody on that horrid coaching staff? lmao.</div>We are a new team. Before the year how many starters returned? How many players are gone ? We are a Rebuilding team who won 2 more games than last year with the new look. Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage are turning this Franchise that Butch Davis had years of bad drafting. If We add a Nose Tackle and 2 linebackers we will be good. We are pretty set on offense with Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, Antonio Bryant, Charlie Frye, and Reuben Droughns. Thanks for your concern [IMG]

This was only done to prevent him from moving on to another team. The Jets and Texans were rumored to be interested in making him their offensive coordinator. By naming him assistant head coach such a move would not be allowed since it would be a demotion.

But it doesnt really matter anyway because since he is under contract we would need promission from the Browns to talk to him and that isnt going to happen.
