"Buck Showalter did his best to tame the darker angels of his soul, but every time the YES Network cameras panned into the Orioles' dugout, Buck's misery was broadcast in high-def. The Yankees were busy destroying the O's, 10-0, Wednesday night, which for Showalter was the equivalent of being water-boarded. Of course, it was only one game, one meaningless mid-March game plucked from the dog days of the exhibition season. Still, if there's anything Showalter hates, it's losing to the Yankees, even in Florida. Buck has spent most of the spring training trying to rewire the Orioles into believing they're no longer the joke of the AL East, so every little bit helps, or, on this night, hurts. It's no easy task, trying to erase what feels like a million years of losing. But Showalter believes he made progress in 2010: He took a 32-73 team after the All-Star break and finished at 34-23, the division's best performance during that span, second best in the American League."
