"During the first four weeks of the season, the Buffalo Bills' porous defense has been shredded by opposing tight ends. First it was Miami's Anthony Fasano, then it was Green Bay's Jermichael Finley, New England's dynamic rookie duo of Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski, and finally the Jets' Dustin Keller. While those players have combined to catch 20 passes for 285 yards and 3 TDs against Buffalo, the Bills have received laughable contributions from their tight ends. Jonathan Stupar and David Martin have six catches for 45 yards and a TD. The hope for the Bills is that Shawn Nelson, who they felt coming into the season would be the kind of tight end threat they've lacked, can soon provide a lift. His four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy ended Monday, and he is eligible for Sunday's game against Jacksonville, provided he's healthy. Not only does Nelson need to get back into football playing shape, he is still recovering from an operation on his groin that was performed four weeks ago and is still bothering him. "I'm still feeling it a little bit, but I'm almost there," Nelson said. With the Bills' bye week coming up after Sunday, the team may decide today to hold Nelson out and take advantage of the one-week roster exemption they have for him to give him the extra time to heal. But whether it's Sunday, or Oct. 24 in Baltimore, Nelson's return is expected to give quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick a much-needed weapon."
