That's how the Bulls' Web site summed up several seasons since the team's last title in 1998.

Talk about a terrible transition game.

The organization's one constant in recent history has been change. That was until general manager John Paxson decided stability was priority one.

''I think our philosophy -- the way we want to play, the people we want to have -- has become more clearly defined the last couple of years,'' Paxson said. ''That's important to me and to [chairman] Jerry Reinsdorf because you've really got to believe in what you're doing to sell it. We obviously have taken some strides, but we also have a long, long way to go.''

Except for the likely no-show of center Eddy Curry and a couple of free-agent signees, the Bulls' squad that arrives for physicals to start training camp Monday is mostly made up of the familiar faces that returned the team to the playoffs last season for the first time since '98.

''I think [chemistry] can be very important,'' Paxson said. ''Our chemistry, we believe, comes from the fact that we've got guys on the same page in terms of their commitment to the game.

"They like to work at it. They enjoy being on the floor. And they understand that our coach [Scott Skiles] is going to be demanding.''</div>
