John Paxson is Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and Gar Foreman is General Manager. What do these job titles mean, and how do they differ? And Gar was a Paxson hire, right?
Gar was in the Bulls organization for 11 years before named GM in 2009. That would predate Paxson. Paxson is the CEO of the organization. He's responsible for PROFIT and loss. All the financials. He meddles with his GM, though Gar doesn't speak out about it. I don't think Gar was a Paxson hire. He was made GM after Paxson physically attacked Vinny Del Negro after a game. Paxson was rewarded with the executive VP job. "Executive" in corporate governance usually means it takes a vote of the board of directors to fire him. The CEO or The Chairman couldn't do it unilaterally. So they gave him extra protection against getting fired. $66M in annual profits, regardless of playoff "success" is not going to encourage a board of directors to fire anyone.
