While the Bulls might not have been able to resign Marion, didn't they want to ditch Nocioni? At this point they have to consider Gordon lost... -Petey
A little later on in this blog post: I think the fact that Miami was the team we were dealing with was the main reason in blocking this trade.
Why would they care how good the Heat were? Do they think they have a chance to lure Wade to Chicago? -Petey
No, but they would still have to go through Miami to get to the finals. The Heat are probably our biggest rivals right now, definitely our biggest non-division rival. It'd kind of be like the Packers trading Brett Favre to the Bears or Vikings. I would rather dump Gordon on a team like the Spurs or Hornets before sending him to Miami.
Bulls fans want to ditch him. I guess Jerry Reinsdorf and John Paxson are bigger Nocioni fans than Bulls fans.
Yeah, everything I head all summer long is that the Bulls were looking to dump Nocioni. Who knows what is going on in the Bulls front office. I would imagine that Paxson would like to keep Gordon/Nocioni long-term, while Reinsdorf wants to dump both of them to maximize profits!
People print all kinds of stupid shit in newspapers that isn't true. I think a bigger issue with all this is that after hashing out the finances then Marion for Noc+Gordon+Cedric Simmons (needed trade ballast) actually puts the Bulls in the luxury tax range. So that's gonna be a non-starter for them.
