The Elton Brand-for-Tyson Chandler deal was tough to take, but it happened five years ago and was executed by the Bulls? previous administration.

Chandler should also get a fair chance to play through the breathing problem he experienced early this season before everyone jumps on his case.

Likewise, the Bulls may have taken a step backward this season because of the Eddy Curry trade. At the time, general manager John Paxson faced a gut-wrenching decision because of Curry?s heart condition and did what he felt was best.

The trade could still have long-range benefits for the Bulls, since they?ll get New York?s first-round draft pick, which right now is guaranteed to be in the top five.

The one move that?s hard to understand, though, is the decision not to re-sign veteran swingman Adrian Griffin, particularly after Antonio Davis had to be included in the Knicks? trade.

The Bulls had a roster spot available and Griffin was sitting at home with no job through the entire month of November. He finally signed with Dallas and is averaging 27 minutes a game for the Mavericks.

When the Bulls got off to a decent start this season, it didn?t seem to be a big deal. But now they?re languishing through a six-game losing streak.

Coach Scott Skiles called for a players-only practice on Christmas Eve, hoping some leadership would develop within the team. One of the Bulls? biggest problems during the losing skid has been falling apart when opposing teams turn up the pressure late in a game.

Leadership and stability seem to be two issues Griffin would have helped solve.</div>
