Bulls still have questions as two-a-days end

By the fifth day of double sessions, any team can find its players' concentration wandering and bodies dragging.

Yet coach Vinny Del Negro, speaking Saturday between practices on the final day of double sessions, praised the Bulls' attentiveness and progress.

Del Negro is on record as saying he'd like to settle on a playing rotation "sooner rather than later." Given the Bulls' diligence and depth, that goal could prove difficult.

"It is going to be tough," Del Negro said. "We have a lot of good players. We have depth at point guard, shooting guard and small forward. It's a long season. Guys have to stay ready.

"Our versatility can be a benefit for us. But you still want to get into a consistent rotation so guys know when they're going to play, how they're going to be used and where they fit in. That stuff all gets answered eventually. It's nothing I'll rush into. We have a ton of work still to do."

Del Negro said to read "nothing" into whatever he determines as his starting lineup and rotation for Thursday night's exhibition opener at home against Dallas. Most exhibitions play out as glorified scrimmages anyway, though against a real opponent.

"I'm not worried about what other teams do," Del Negro said. "I'm worried about how we're progressing as a team and individually and understanding the concepts and philosophy of what we're trying to do.

"We have such a young team that I feel it's important, especially with a new staff and new system, that we get as much mental work now as we do physical."

Players are eager to see how Del Negro's rotation takes shape.

"There has to be some sort of rotation so guys can get into a rhythm," guard Larry Hughes said.
