The Bulls have a trade in place that would send guard Kirk Hinrich and the No. 17 pick to the Wizards, sources told ESPN.com's Ric Bucher.

The move would free up enough cap space for Chicago to sign two max-level free agents this summer.

The deal can't be consummated until July 8, when Washington will have enough room under the cap to absorb Hinrich's contract without having to send anything back in return.

The article said if the Wizards back out, the Kings have a similar deal with the Bulls as well. Either way, kirk should be gone!

Well it looks like the Bulls are serious about wanting two of the top FA's!

I like it. Sad to see him go, even more sad that its gonna be the Wizards lol. At least this gives us room for 2 max FA's

sam amick is questioning both trades. Said a source from the Kings said there is no deal in place with the Bulls. Sam said it could be leverage by FO to get the Wizards to not back out.

Sam also said he heard the Bulls-Wizards is a not a done deal as reported by Bucher.

Aldridge said the deal is done.

The Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls have agreed to a trade that will send Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich and Chicago's first-round pick, 17th overall, to Washington for a future second-round pick, a league source confirmed Thursday. The deal will clear Hinrich's $9 million salary off of the Bulls' salary cap for next season, as well as the $1.3 million in guaranteed first-year money they would have had to pay their first-round pick, and reduce Chicago's payroll for next season to $22.8 million--which would, if the current projection of a $56.1 million salary cap for the 2010-11 season holds, allow the Bulls to be able to sign two maximum salaried free agents starting next week.

    Holy fuck!

    This can change a lot.

If the Bulls can sign two max guys, that has to make them favorites to get The King. I think James likes it in Chicago because he wouldn't have to defer the ball as much, and would have quite a respectable cast.

We need to trade deng and bring back at leasty $3 million less than he makes. Then we can sign two FA out right!

Minus Kirk, the Bulls have $35M in cap space, enough for 2x $16M max contracts and $3M left over. Probably less due to cap holds.

Like I said in the other forum. I say we go after Darko. I hear minny loves Deng. IDK if we can do that tho, even if contracts dont expire til next thursday. If so, then pull the trigger, maybe even pull in Wayne ellington, he can shoot a lil bit right?

Wizards get Hinrich, No. 17 pick
By Marc J. Spears, Yahoo! Sports

The Chicago Bulls have cleared more salary-cap room for their free-agent splurge by agreeing to trade Kirk Hinrich(notes) and the No. 17 pick to the Washington Wizards for a second-round pick, NBA sources confirmed to Yahoo! Sports.

The trade, which can’t be completed until July 8 after the Wizards clear cap room to absorb Hinrich, frees the Bulls to now offer close to two max-level contracts to a top-tier free-agent class that includes LeBron James(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes), Chris Bosh(notes) and Amar’e Stoudemire(notes).

The Wizards, who already have Gilbert Arenas(notes) and plan to take John Wall with the No. 1 choice, have added another combo guard to their roster. One league source familiar with the franchise’s thinking said Washington officials made the deal because they valued Hinrich and wanted another draft pick to build around.

Hinrich has two years and $17 million remaining on his contract.

Hey Denny, do you know anything about still trading for expiring contracts?

You can't trade an expiring contract after the winter deadline.

You can sign one of your players to a big contract and then trade him though, even one of your FAs (like Flip Murray or Pargo). They'd be signed to a one year guaranteed contract and would basically be expiring. However, if they get too big a raise, they become BYC and difficult to trade.

The yahoo article says "close to two max", did they get their figures wrong?

Very exciting time for the Bulls though.

Ahh ok then, well a deal with Minny would be difficult to do then. I still say we could do Deng for Ellington and maybe another contract to get them closer together, it would just have to be finalized after the 8th.

    Salary cap is $56M

Bulls have $31.8M committed, including Kirk.

    Bulls have $24.2M cap space.

Bulls have 6 players signed, so they have 6x ~$500K cap holds (~$3M)

    Bulls have $21.2M cap space.
Bulls sign 2 FAs, remove two of the cap holds, gain back $9M for letting Kirk go to DC., but gain another cap hold.

Bulls have $31.7M cap space minus what the 2 FAs cost.

Probably $1.5M shy to sign the two to MAX deals. Hence Johnson at $15M - 4 years / $60M

I know MikeDC doesn't like Johnson, but...

    Rose/Johnson
    LBJ/Bosh
    Noah

    Ain't bad.

You need to shed Deng then, hopefully the clippers/kings thing is real.

What else can you get for 15 million a year?

Possibly Boozer. Maybe another guy who wants a ring and would take slightly less than MAX.

On the other hand, there are enough teams with plenty of CAP to assure everyone gets a MAX offer.

Sam Amick was skeptical. He confirmed from league sources, the trade is done.
