By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Alex Gonzalez's bases-loaded single off Dave Robertson pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning as the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays, 6-1, on Friday at Yankee Stadium. Robertson was in his second inning of relief, following Mariano Rivera's scoreless ninth, which came after Joba Chamberlain blew a one-run lead in the eighth. That nixed 6 2/3 innings of scoreless, four-hit ball from A.J. Burnett. Chamberlain got the benefit of a leaping catch by Brett Gardner against the left-field wall for the first out in the eighth, but Chamberlain issued a walk and two hits, the second of which was Aaron Hill's game-tying single to left. Handing the ball off after a seventh-inning single, Burnett had snapped his string of five losing starts, having complained for weeks about funky mechanics. Finally, with pitching coach Dave Eiland back in place, Burnett finally saw daylight with a sharp effort. Burnett walked three and struck out six, overcoming early command issues by pitching out of trouble -- his third-inning escape to pin runners at second and third was pivotal -- before giving way to Damaso Marte in the seventh. The Yankees worked six walks in six innings against Blue Jays lefty Brett Cecil, but they only had one run to show for it, as Alex Rodriguez drove in Derek Jeter with a first-inning sacrifice fly. New York continued to struggle with runners in scoring position, marked most prominently by a bases-loaded, none out opportunity in the third inning, when Cecil retired A-Rod, Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada in order to get out of the jam.
