Link: NY Daily News There'll be a press conference in an hour or so, where we can hear Plax's response to all this. I expect it'll be business as usual.
Thanks! That was interesting. 40-50 times fined? Yowza. Not really that big of a deal as long as you go out and produce. And Plaxico does. Only the ESPN crowd think this sort of stuff is major. The reality of it is, if you go out and produce on gameday, it earns the respect of your teammates. Got to admit... he handled that pretty well. Especially the "I understand why they did this..." "No, I don't have a problem with it..." type of comments. I am curious to what the incident involved though (with his son).
It's really kind of a weird situation. Plaxico's clearly a free spirit that does his own thing when he wants to. But there's also an entire other dimension to him, where he's a respected locker room leader who gives it his all for the team every week. I don't think any other player on the team could get away with what he does, and I don't think either side really has a problem with it. Notice that the focus of the press conference and quotes was the lack of a phone call, not the consistent pattern of lateness.
Yep. This is part of the reason he was let go in Pitt. Coughlin handled the situation fine. Fined him, suspended him, and it appears both the Giants and Plaxico have no hard feelings and are putting this behind them. I haven't watched much TV lately; is Plaxico getting crucified over this? Or is the media pretty mum on this? And by media, I mean ESPN
Well ESPN and Yahoo put out similar sounding articles about how the game against Seattle was a message for Plax that this team doesn't need him and that he'll need to shape up. Of the local reporters, Mike Garafalo just recorded the conference (what I posted) and Ralph Vacchiano did the same with a kind of confused commentary. I think there's a tendency to look at this in the same way that we looked at the Jeremy Shockey fiasco. It'd be stupid to do that though.
Hixon def. did step up... But its doubtful he can draw coverage away like Plaxico can. He might be able to make the catches, yac, etc...
Plaxico is the only number one receiver we have on the team. We have the depth to play without him for a week or two, but Manning-to-Burress will always remain a crucial part of our offense.
