I may have mentioned before, I work at Genentech and after 6 years we get a (paid) 6 week sabbatical. I'll be off work starting tomorrow and returning May 30. During that time I'm going to Santa Barbara to stay at a vegetarian scent free b&b and visit my favorite cousin & his husband, going on wine tours in Sonoma, visiting my father for his 92nd birthday, seeing a bunch of A's games, trying out local restaurants, throwing a dinner party and a party for my cat Orlando's 9th birthday, visiting Oakland Museum, Oakland Zoo, California Academy of Sciences, Monterey Bay Aquarium, futzing around in garden, among others. Also, resting my poor battered hands by staying off computers. I'll check email and update finances weekly, no boards, chat rooms, blogs, online publications. So, on May 30, hopefully someone can update me on what I've missed here. I'm sure no one will miss me.
Enjoy the time off. I know you're into baking, so you might like these. My friends and his fiancé just launched a gourmet marshmallow business up in Oakland. I know their in a couple stores down there, but I'm not sure where. http://www.sugarknife.com
Yeah, no physical store. They just launched a month or two ago after raising money on kickstarter. I think they're at a couple of local shops right now, but I'm guessing most of their sales are online. I'll check to see where you can pick it up. I guess if you use promo code PICKUP when you buy online they'll coordinate a pick up location for you. That might be a lot of hassle for some marshmallows though.
Sabbaticals rock, Im due for my second in 2016. I spent my first in Buenos Aire, Rio and Icguazu. Have fun an enjoy your time away from normal life.
Have a nice time and good for you for going "dark." I did that last month as much as I could and it really helps.
Going on mine in June and July . . . but still jealous you get yours right now. Enjoy each day as they go by quickly and seem to take forever to get.
Will this be a snobby affair? I'll check the social events section in the paper afterwards. Have fun. From hard, tough experiences, I patronize only lower class marshmallow startups. Put some grits in it.
Have fun! I've been eligible for a sabbatical since last July, but the project I'm working on can't afford to let me go until next July! :-(
