Pretty retarded that Phil is being so picky about Bynum who has an excellent impact for the Lakers and gives the Nuggets problems. But then plenty of other guys can make lots of mistakes, and get their share of minutes.
This is gonna be a huge problem if they don't see eye-to-eye. Bynum can make a better impact than Odom defensively, which is exactly what we need. And if the "not hustling down the court" was the only reason he yanked Bynum, then that's crazy. Fish was a bigger liability yet he was on the court for a helluva lot longer.
Because none of them have the potential that Bynum has. Don Nelson did this to Anthony Randolph in the beginning of the season and he became a much better player by the end of the season.
But LA doesn't have the time to make these kind of changes in a best of 7 series. I can only hope that Bynum doesn't make a single mistake in the game so that he doesn't get yanked. God, Phil COME ON!!
I understand that, but in the playoffs, forget doing discipline on the little things when you need Bynum out there.
In the long run, Bynum's development is more important. Plus Phil can't send the message that the playoffs change the way he would normally coach.
Phil is always harder on players who have potential because he doesn't want to see them fail. In this case, he doesn't want Drew to feel satisfied or content because he's putting up X amount of point per game, he wants Drew to develop into a full player, offensively and defensively. At 21 years of age, he has a lot of room left to grow. I think in a way, such treatment could hurt his confidence initially, but he'll benefit in the long run because of it. Drew isn't going to let this get him down, in the long run, he's gonna use this to play even harder, just like he used Kobe's "ship his ass out" and made Kobe look like an absolute buffoon. So although I bitch about Phil, I can see where he's coming from. Although, if you ask me, I don't really remember a time last game where Drew was lazy defensively. All I remember was him playing well, picking up 1 foul, and sitting on the bench. I think doing this to a player is fine, but when it ends up costing us games in the playoffs, I'm going to get pissed. In this case, it happened in Game 2. I'm fine with Phil doing whatever the hell he wants, as long as we win a 'ship. If using his "Zen" to make Drew a better player ends up costing us a championship, then it is absolutely not worth it. The Warriors are different. They aren't a championship contending team, they aren't a playoff team. They don't need Randolph's production. We need Drew and his production regardless. Hopefully these two will see some common ground and help us win this thing. Phil is the only coach I know who still experiments with his lineups and plays around when his team is in the WCF.
But coaches do coach different during the regular season, and the playoffs. Anyway, so you have a choice, Discipline Bynum for small mistakes and don't play him (that you don't discipline other guys for). Go 1-1 Go 2-0, and play Bynum the minutes.
I like your point. Phil can be a bitch, but every time he does something i think is stupid, i say to myself that he has won 9 titles and WHAT DO I KNOW about coaching. He's the zen master and i bet he knows what he's doing. Game 2 was a mistake, but no one is perfect. All i know he's the guy who can make Lakers win the championship.
http://www.dailynews.com/ci_12439961?source=rss Why doesn't he treat Fisher the same then, he can't play longer than Drew. Sasha's minutes seem slightly lower than at the start of the playoffs, but the same applies to Shannon. Phil still has some things to work on.
He's tolerating fisher cause he's a "vet" which really isn't fair since Fisher has been more or less, more of a liability compared to Drew. Fisher is just too weary from those long stretches of 40+ minutes in the season and it's caused his jumpshots to clank. his J's are becoming very wild-looking lately.
There are a lot of things that Phil does that confuses me..this is kind of one of them. I do understand limiting his minutes since he did just come back from a major knee injury, and you want to know he's completely healthy before you start piling on heavy minutes. However, when the game is on the line, you still want your best lineup out there, and if he's been playing well, get him on the court. Who cares if he makes one miscue, he's young, those happen.
If the kid shows that he can play, and says that he can play, then goddamn it he can play. Phil's just too damn stubborn. Sucks that Drew somehow found his way into Phil's doghouse, apparently for "not playing defense," even though, surprise surprise, our defense is the best with Drew on the court.
He can't play long stretches? WTF kind of bullshit is that? Phil got that line from Jeanie. "Phil, you can't play long stretches. You can't keep it up that long. "Your just a woman, you don't know what your talking about."
